Yes I agree with your sentiments and do dislike the whole Boris/Tory approach much as I found the whole Trmpian approach in the US appalling.Immigration needs to be managed. It needs to meet the needs of the country. It needs to be fair and just. It needs to remove the feeling that these people are stealing people a jobs. It isn't as fruit producers, Hospitality and our NHS shows. It should never be used as a weapon to appease thick racist gammons. We need it. People want to come here. If we get Indy I am will to bet our largest group will come from England. People who want a better life away from a Tory hell. I may be wrong, but I really believe that. And they will be welcomed, just as the 500,000 already happy here are. You fuckers make up 10% of our population, let's make that 15%. It's not about nationality, it's about values. People know what we are about and share them.
I fully support the rights of a country or group of people to use their voice and votes to gain what they want. If that means a independent Scotland or a United Ireland for that matter, then so be it...it is democracy in action and the way things should be.
But....surely that and your dislike of all things Tory is a completely different matter to where we first started this exchange?
You say that you hope and are certain that a new independent Scotland would have a fair and just and humane system...but that then suggests that you agree that there does in fact need to be some system in place.
In that case I would assume...Yes I know I am making an assumption there.....by the very fact you are accepting that there are rules it is highly likely that some people will not abide by those rules.
In that instance the new Scottish Immigration Service would have to then enforce those rules. Or would that be a case of simply writing to those individuals and asking them if they would be so good as to comply next time, or not commit that DUI/GBH or whatever it may be?...and if they don't, then what do you do?
What I find interesting and unsettling to a degree in this case is the action taken by the crowds based on rumours and half truths. Neither you nor I know the full details and yet the whole subject polarises and antagonises people so much. The flames fanned by the media and further bias or mis-reporting.
