He must feel like a Polish builder did or a Latvia truck driver did post 2016 - they went home too because of a nasty anti-foreigner undercurrent they were feeling
Maybe, hes a bright fella, flies choppers out of Aberdeen for a living, going to move to the Irish Sea rigs mainly for this reason alone. Said the last few years its been getting worse. I guess if your Scottish you would never notice this kind of thing or perhaps deny it even happens. No doubt Nicola Sturgeons divisional politics is partly to blame just like Farage was partly to blame for the general rise in Xenophobia south of the border.

My mate who is English and has lived in Aberdeenshire for about 15yrs with his family told me last month he is now going to move back south next summer. As in his opinion the nasty undercurrent of anti Englishness that he and his family experince has grown considerably the past few years. Hes convinced its because of Nicola Sturgeon and her nationalist blame the English rhetoric. This doesnt get reported in the media and she never gets questioned on it. She always seems to get an easy ride by the media in the UK.
Good luck to your mate. It’s a shame he feels that way. I’m not here to defend Sturgeon but do you think Westminster Tory mp’s openly laughing and jeering at SNP MPs at PMQ S and when they try to make points is supporting anglo Scot relations?

politics is getting extremely polarised and it would be wrong to put the blame on one side.

And Johnson across the whole nation.

Not a Scotland I recognise, and I've lived here 20 years, lots of English around here it's also not a story I hear, in fact the only comment I hear is it's the best thing they have done moving here.Quit a few English actually vote SNP though they don't all support independence a few do.

Johnson is an utter prick who is going too fast, once again. It's too soon and the last person anybody with a brain would follow, is that useless ****. She is being different because she has to. I bet you within a fortnight of poxy freedom day, the infection rate is through the roof.

Well your forecast was spot on….for Scotland

Don't know if anyone saw GMB interview with Oliver Dowden this morning when he made out that he couldn't hear the question when asked about a possible Scottish referendum. It was really odd that he could hear everything else but his sound cut out when asked this question not once, not twice but three times. Seems new government guidelines are out for dealing with difficult questions. Pretend you can't hear them!

It’s a bit more honest than hearing the question and then answering a completely different one ;)

Can I ask are you English or Scottish or perhaps British?

TBH I was surprised when he mentioned it last month when he was down to see his folks and we met up for a few beers. I think thats a fair point about tbe MPs, House of commons antics are very juvenile.

Interesting we have another family that we are very good friends with who we have known 35 plus years, who now live in Dunblane, they moved north from Durham about 25yrs ago. She is Scottish her Husband is English. I dont recall him ever mentioning anything to me along the lines of what my othe mate said. For the record I dont know her politics that well but I know she is staunchly patriotic but not an SNP supporter. She doesnt like Sturgeon at all, a large part of it due to the Incompetence she sees in her government I believe.

I agree to an extent, but i would say as much as Sturgeon. Is he deliberately creating division to further his agenda like she is.
I think its quite different. Johnson is alienating Scots (and others) through his politics, actions and lies. I dont see Sturgeon in the same class and truly I dont see her as anti English either by word or deed. I would be the first to point the finger at her mentor who was truly odious but not Sturgeon. We are probably looking at this through different lenses though and I am not surprised you see her the way you do based on some press coverage (both england and scotland).

In no way am i trying to defend Johnson. But interested to hear how and why he is particulary alienating Scots.

Brexit, Brexit and Brexit.
Mocking our MP's in the HoC
Lying every time he opens his gob
pretending that he has the right to say if or when Scotland gets a referendum when the country has mandated it through the last Scottish election
trying to row back devolved powers

That will probably do as a starter.

in Fairness he treats Scotland no different to the other parts of the UK that voted remain.

All MPs mock each other sadly. And he also gets mocked remorsely as hes a buffoon.

He lies to everyone, not just to the Scots.

I think you will find he does have a very big say on when a referendum on the UKs future can happen. Thats why Sturgeon keeps asking him.

I wasnt aware that he had rowed back any devolved powers or tried to do so. When was this?

He may not be popular north of the border but in balance and based on your answers above I dont think you can actually say hes anti Scottish at all.

What isnt in dispute is that Johnson and all previous UK governments as far as I can think back have treated the northern English regions very poorly. Thats partly why you lot dont get alot a lot of sympathy down here at times, despite getying a good deal you still moan quite abit. ;-)

And you know my beef is not with northern England. Levelling up? Don’t make me laugh. I wish you had some of the social benefits that we enjoy and prioritise. You and I have done the Barnett Formulae to death so let’s not do that. In turn I reserve the right to moan about Johnson any time I like;-)

Most of the rowing back is noise just now and threats. There is real discussion about some of the stuff that came back with Brexit that should have been devolved particularly farming and fishing. He is also playing with the new care tax and how Scotland’s proportion is allocated back. I don’t think he gives a flying fuck about Scotland mate but then I don’t think he gives a flying fuck about most things. I just don’t think he wants it to happen on his watch

we should have gone for independence in the years that Scotland was in surplus thanks to the oil boom. Just think if we had bitten the bullet 40 years ago we would be sitting on a huge fuck you wealth Fund by now Like Norway and other oil states. maybe we would have given some of it to our friendlier neighbours as ‘foreign aid’ ;-)

The opinion of the SNP across a lot of English people is that Sturgeon, the SNP and her followers hate us English.

Salmond definitely was odious as you say but the SNP are only tolerated by people well on the left that see them as the enemy of their enemy and therefore friend.

It’s why I think the union is doomed and it may actually stop the division between England and Scotland.

The Scottish definitely dislike us more than us and them though. I’ve got a big group of Scottish mates I’ve known 30 years who I play golf with, they get on with me but hate England with a passion.
