The Secret Footballer

Re: The Secret Footballer..... 'Lifting the Lid'

It's Kitson. His column is always a decent read and interesting.

I do think the 'top players' he says he played with aren't quite starts, though. I mean, we're talking the best players at Reading in 2006-08 and Stoke from 2009-2011.

Re: The Secret Footballer..... 'Lifting the Lid'

Just finished reading this book and found it a very good read although whoever it is, is very bitter with the game in general.

Is it Definitely Dave Kitson? Or is this just the leading candidate on the forum dedicated to it.

I have my doubts. Stephen Ireland was the first footballer I thought but some of the things quoted rules him out as with Alan Smith who was another one of my leading candidates. He mentions City and Manchester a lot. Which I think leads to a North West based player

I read it and having researched it am satisfied its kitson. I enjoyed the book but I didn't think he came across as particularly likeable.

I read it and thought it was garbage.Poorly written collection of stories that
could have been written by anyone, including myself. Yes there are a few "clues"
dropped in to keep you interested but even they are generic.

Poor
4/10

I think you're right re Kitson.

But I enjoyed the book and his perspective, and I certainly look at our players in a different light (it's difficult to imagine them seeing being a footballer as a chore for example in the same way as some of us see our own jobs). Just because they are good at it doesn't mean that they have the same passion and love for it as most fans do.

Have you tried reading Pele's autobiography? It's like something that was written by a six year old

"So we went on a train. I was standing on the seat looking out of the window. The scenery was enthralling. I leaned out of the window too far and felt myself falling. Fortunately, my Father pulled me back into the carriage. For the rest of the journey I had to sit between my Mother and Father. I was not allowed to look out of the window again"

Currently a third of the way through. Enjoying it so far and like the others I think its Kitson.

The England international who's missus went into the pool flirty whilst players asleep strikes me as Crouch. Obvious I know but it has to be her, surely?

I dont think its Kitson.. its almost 100% nailed on that its more thatn one player..

but if it is juat one, he name checks Dicanio as a team mate in the book.. that rules out Kitson..

Tend to agree. Thankfully it was an Xmas pressie and I didn't buy it.

Very doubtful it was Kitson as the author makes out he was/is a top notch player!
