Foxes dont harm cats , i have been here about 24 yrs and have had foxes in the garden all that time , the 21yr old used to play with the very young cubs whilst mum sat in the sunshine every summer , once the cubs got a bit bigger she would keep her distance but not by much , they were just used to each other and the cubs grow up and then brought their own families , knowing the cat and the garden were safe Silva avoided them and merlin thinks they are dogs so comes running inOur first cat was allowed to roam free and would come leaping over the back garden fences whenever we came home. But that was in London, she crossed the ocean with us and became an apartment cat except on trips to the in-laws' house in the woods. Current moggies stay inside and have never walked the streets, oldest is 17 now.
Indoor cats live longer so best you keep yours safe, probably got foxes & all sorts down there in Sussex, his life might be a bit less thrilling but he'll grow old with you.
None were allowed out after dark so have not encountered the badgers as far as i know
I know what you are saying about it being safer to keep them in but when i adopted them i promised them i would make every day a good one and that to me is the full experience
What happens in the summer when i want to leave the doors and windows open ? Merlin stayed in for about four months at the start then started to get out of windows i thought he would never be able to get through, he was ready, lol
