The Smiths & Morrissey thread

At Amber, Changed my plea to guilty and Jack the ripper are 3.
Dont think he has new fans, just us oldies clinging on..... He always plays "unpopular songs". That Munich song isnt awful because of the rags connection it is just awful full stop.

There were a lot of younger fans there yesterday but I think they want a few more hits than he gives .

I liked the setlist. It tends to disappoint me more when he does trot out the hits. I’ve heard Suedehead, Sunday, Playboys, HSIN, Meat is Murder so many times over the years, it was a refreshing change to not have them. Having said that I can see why some people wouldn’t enjoy it.

Must have fallen asleep by then. He wasn't trying to piss people off when he had no record deal and could still sing a bit. This was a better Leeds gig I went to:

You're Gonna Need Someone on Your Side
The Boy Racer
Billy Budd
Hairdresser on Fire
Reader Meet Author
Is It Really So Strange?
Alma Matters
November Spawned a Monster
Speedway
Lost
Tomorrow
Now My Heart Is Full
Trouble Loves Me
Break Up the Family
The Teachers Are Afraid of the Pupils
Meat Is Murder
Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me

Then his next tour:

I Want the One I Can't Have
Hairdresser on Fire
Suedehead
Little Man, What Now?
First of the Gang to Die
Jack the Ripper
I Like You
Mexico
Sister I'm a Poet
Alsatian Cousin
Everyday Is Like Sunday
The World Is Full of Crashing Bores
Meat Is Murder
Irish Blood, English Heart
Late Night, Maudlin Street
Speedway
There Is a Light That Never Goes Out

10 x better than Friday and an absence of unpopular sings.

So the 1st gig was in the late 90's and the 2nd probably 2004?
And you expect the same songs 16 years and 6 albums later?

Me and my wife used to love Morrissey and since the mid 2000's (you are the quarry) we've seen him live 5 times.

We've become a bit bored of his music though lately and the last couple of gigs where he's insisted on ramming his views on meat eating down your throat with extreme footage of cruelty to animals whilst playing meat is murder we both found unnecessary. When your leaving a concert that you've paid a considerable amount of money to attend, you shouldn't be leaving te venue feeling guilty or feeling like you've been told off by someone who thinks that they're superior to you.

A live gig is an amazing thing and he chooses to perform loads of songs that only a small proportion of the audience actually like when he has a back catalogue that could make pretty much any Morrissey gig the best you've ever been to. His ignorance and arrogance towards the majority of his fanbase has resulted in us not being interested in watching him live again.

Also, we like to travel abroad to see concerts these days. We wouldn't trust him ti even bother playing the concert based on his record for cancelling shows which again displays a total arrogance towards his fanbase.

Overall, we think he's a twat nowadays.

I was showing that he didn't used to play "unpopular songs" as you stated.

It also shows have very poor his albums have been since 2006 but he insists on playing the manure off them plus rubbish covers which he never used to do. His band looked very bored, the crowd were bored, the singer was struggling and self indulgent.

He may just as well get a collection of Gary Barlow and Daniel Bedingfield slower b-sides and record them as his next album, and play them on tour almost exclusively, as it could even be an improvement.

Agree about the travelling. Possibly my fave gig was a small outdoor amphitheatre outside Rome in 2006. No back drop (nothing to hang it on!)
It was a week after Italy won the world cup and he congratulated them for being the best team in the world. I guess the locals hadnt a clue what he just said as there was a second of silence and I shouted out "Manchester City!" And he turned and said "yes I remember them too"
I have heard a bootleg of the gig and you cant hear my shout but you get his response.

Also great gigs in Berlin, Baltimore and Hollywood Bowl.

However.... Cancelled gigs in Boston, Philly, Baltimore, NY, Boulder (Colorado), Dallas, Chicago, Cincinnati, London and of course the debacle at Liverpool Echo Arena!
