The South Stand Tonight And The Drum

Yep, I remember the Frank Lampard version and as I didn't like it I didn't join in with it. I also remember a few people trying to get that "when I was young, I followed on" chant going at a few of the games at the academy stadium that year so I didn't join in with that either. But that's my point, if someone starts bringing a drum to games then I expect we'll hear more repetitive 'ultra' style chants and as a significant proportion of our support don't seem particularly keen on that then I expect it'll make the situation worse.

Each to their own with regards to which songs they like. Personally "best team in the land and all the world" has never been a favourite of mine but I join in regardless.

No doubt the drum is divisive, but it won't be making regular appearances anytime soon. The Gladbach game was specifically chosen because last year they blasted us out of the park and some of that was down to them using big fuck off drums.

A bigger issue for me concerns those people in the singing section who never contribute to the atmosphere. I don't expect everyone to be going at it for the full 90 minutes but it's clear what that section is for and if there are people in there that don't want to contribute then they shouldn't be there in the first place.

Anyway, Wednesday was a pleasant surprise atmosphere wise so hopefully there's a repeat tomorrow.

I spoke to guy holding the drum and hes not happy as he was abused and called a nonce, at least hes trying something, hes thinking of fucking it off.

Haha, sorry but that made me laugh more than it probably should. As for the drum, it's a no from me I'm afraid.

The drum's a great idea. Our timing as a fanbase is bloody atrocious. I've often sat there listening to the whole stadium attempt to sing in unison only for it to fail within about 10 seconds because everyone goes out of time and it gets incredibly confusing. As a musician it drives me mad ha. I've always wanted to set a metronome up over the PA to get people actually singing along in time. A drum's a great idea for this. In general people *do* want to sing in my opinion, but there's two overriding problems:
1) People are a bit cowardly and most aren't willing to start it because they can hear their own voices too clearly
2) the timing thing

The drum makes noise, which helps 1) and it solves 2), meaning everyone sings in time and that once again lessens the effect of problem 1)....it's great. Get it going, as long as its used sensibly as others have said.

Keep the drum. Build an atmosphere. Ban the drum keep wishing for an atmosphere.

There's nowt like a bloody big drum to get the troops going. A slug of rum as well would be good. This should be one of the freebies in the season ticket freebie book. I like someone banging out the beat on a massive drum. Just keep it in the south stand, though. We FOCs in CBL3 prefer it at arm's length.

I understand the idea of it trying to get everyone singing in time and using it to create an atmosphere, and if it can be done RIGHT then I'm for it. It needs to be done right, knowing what drum beat goes best with songs, mixing it up instead of just dum dum dum constantly. Like I say get some good beats going on it and it can work
