The Southampton Thread!

got to feel sorry for them, managers gone, shaw, lambert, lallana, schniederlin probably rodriguez all going, basically any team outside the top has no chance as the big clubs just come in and take all there players off them.

Financial Fair Play

Just said on SSN that Liverpool have agreed a fee with Southampton and personal terms with Lambert and that he'll have a medical tomorrow. I really can't understand why Lambert, at 32, would choose to spend the final couple of seasons of his career, bench warming at another club.

He gets to play fr the team he supports and he's from liverpool, never mind it's the chance to join a top team... I have no idea why he would join them myself ..........

Except that he won't get to play very often. He's first choice at Southampton and has 3 years, at best, left on his career. Even if it's the club he supports, it isn't going to put him In front of Suarez, Sturridge or Sterling, so for the most part he'll be watching from the bench. Why finish your career doing that when you don't need to?

Because you're talking about a player who is a boyhood Liverpool supporter, whos' come from the lower league right through to the top, and, at 32, when his time is pretty much running out, he's offered the chance to play for Liverpool, and even make the odd appearance in the Champions League.

Even if it means he only makes 20/25 appearances a season, majority as sub (he'll certainly play the League Cup games), and gets to feature at time in the CL, it will be a sensible move for him.

When you spend most of your career in the lower divisions, if you're finally offered the chance to play for the club you love, and possibly feature in the CL, you'd be pretty stupid to turn it down.

Throw in the fact he'll get a bit more money (won't be much, but it's still a spare few K, around friends and family, let's his kids settle into the area (if he has any/wants any) as he'll probably now set up in the area for life. I can understand his reasoning and fair play to him.

Never has that cockwomble Drake's (awful) song been more fitting. The, 'started from the bottom now we're here' one.

Sorry guys, we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. Still makes no sense to me why an England international would choose to be a substitute. I've never once heard an ex professional say they wish they'd spent more time on the bench and less time playing but there you go!
