The Southampton Thread!

They spent 35m+ pounds last season, and even though they've sold 50m+ of players right now they've still bought a couple in for around 20m. So they aren't exactly selling everyone off without any replacements. Lambert will be retired in a season or two. I'm not 100% convinced on Luke Shaw yet, he is brilliant going forward not so sure of him defensively. Lallana I'm the most curious about, can he keep up that wonder form? If it all goes pear shaped he'll be labelled another Charlie Adam.

All of Southampton players worked brilliant as a team, let's see how they do elsewhere. Although they're weaker they'll still stay in the premier league and have done some brilliant business

News that if cardiff put in 5M they can land Fonte..that will, be another starter OUt wtf it's hapenning down there??

This sums up FFP in a nutshell.
Major teams get bigger and bigger sponserships whilst the rest feed on scraps. No team has a hope of finishing in the top 4 now with exception of say 6 clubs. Its 2 leagues in one, the race for the title and CL and the rest hoping to stay up.
Teams that show promise ie Southampton, are asset striped by teams with the money.
There is little hope now for teams to compete with the big boys and we just got in before the doors slammed.

i dont think its got anything to do with ffp they have plenty of money, but there owner apparently doesn't even like football and is trying to make her money back, they are selling off all the clubs assets

It's not just about how much money the owners have, it's how much the club have and the level of their income. The problem Southampton would have faced is the salaries they would have needed to pay Lallana, Shaw, Lambert and the rest in order to keep them. All the players that have left will be on vastly improved wages at their new clubs, Shaw's salary has reportedly increased by about 5 million a season.

£20 says they do not go down.
done deal... I'll find you at the end of the season to collect.

Edit: let's throw in a cup bovril at the match when the manager is sacked in the new year...

Surely you'd want soup?

I'll be collecting at Easter, they will be safe by then mate ;o)
if you can find a blue soup then maybe. But much prefer a bovril ... Game on

Seems a little strange to me seeing as these Southampton players are so good that there ex manager has not bid for any of them to follow him to spurs.

I thought he was after one of them but I can't remember who. It wasn't one of the obvious ones though (I don't think).

Maybe he's not allowed? Can't imagine Levy giving him the run of the place, and he'd probably have to sell to buy anyway, either because of money, wages, or just to fit them in the squad.

In theory he has a better squad at Spurs anyway so should only be looking to replace any he wants out (eg Holtby) and to fill a gap or two.

You might be thinking of Schneiderlin, who he certainly wants.

We have a better squad than Southampton but we have some holes that need filling, specifically at CB, CM, and LW. I could see us getting a CB and maybe Schneiderlin if we sell a midfielder but that's probably about all that we'll do.

Is Sandro, Capoue, Dembele, Paulinho, Bentalab, Holtby, Eriksen and Chadli at a push not enough?

Liverpool have made an enquiry about the availability of Jay Rodriguez, talkSPORT understands.

The Reds are currently looking at strengthening their forward line following Luis Suarez’s £75million move to Barcelona, but Loic Remy’s proposed switch fell through after he failed a medical.

And now Brendan Rodgers, who has already signed Rickie Lambert and Lazar Markovic in an attempt to bolster his frontline, is turning his attention to Rodriguez.

The English forward was offered a new deal at Southampton this summer but is yet to put pen-to-paper as a number of the club’s star men have left St Mary’s along with manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Rodgers will be keen to wrap up a deal quickly for the 24-year-old, who is currently sidelined with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, as Manchester City are also keen on the ex-Burnley star.
