The Squad planning thread

This is quite damning for the likes of Stones and Ake, and helps explain the KDB & Gundogan decisions more.

Ake had a good fitness record at Bournemouth but Stones one season apart has always been a sick note, so not sure why Pep has suddenly called him out.

With Stones on a big contract and in his last year who is going to take him on?

How about all the injuries Stones and Ake had before Pep. What's the excuse then?
Ake wasn’t injury prone before and if he was why go for him then? Pep is just calling out players while he is at fault for rushing them back or insisting on a small squad while also telling the board that he didn’t need new players. Now it haunts him and everyone else is at fault.

1 Probably a very small amount of book value left <£2M, we could write this off
2 When John plays he's very good, clubs may take a chance on this.
3 John may decide to move on to ensure some playing time (presuming we're not really going to have him in our plans) due to it being a WC year in 2026, he may take a salary reduction

To be fair when you have an isolated sicknote you can cope, which we have in the past. Problem is he’s not alone anymore - Ake is just as bad and Dias has been a problem this year too.

With both contracts up for renewal it’s a tough call for the club.

To be honest when the club have Reis, Khusanov and Bah in the house it's an easy decision, those three wages combined are probably a 1/3 of either of Ake/Stones.

Stones and Ake great players when fit but there injuries are only going to get worse due to their ages.

And with Gvardiol looking class at CB it's even easier, the issue is FB's.

Send Reis, Khusanov, Bah, Callum Doyle, Ake, Stones, Dias and Akanji off on a US marine style assault course followed by a 5 mile Run to allow them to cool down.
The last 3 home given their marching orders.

that would make great tv

I'd also include Rico, Gvardiol, Walker and JWE

also i'd go SAS over US marine.

3 episodes. lose 1, then repeat the course and lose another and repeat for the 3rd. give Pep a golden buzzer to save one.

I reckon we'd lose Doyle, Stones and Ake

Feels like that would be a walk in the park for Josko and Khusa. I feel like Walker would do pretty tidily as well (as long as there are no distractions on the course…).

Like no CCTV for him to wave his package around at?

So before i say who my players for in are, there are a few things to acknowledge. first is our signing's for the last 4 years have been poor, it is not the players, although over this period, we had a higher than our usual failure rate, it is the numbers game, our squad got older and slower because of. Pep did not help with his small squad size preference, getting hit badly by the new 5 man substitution rule, which meant that our players were not just playing more games, they were playing harder, as shitty teams just kept the work rate higher through fresh legs.
Then there is the club world cup, to me and you it may well be unimportant, get the £30 million and walk away, but to the clubs higher management, this is a chance to show what can be achieved through investment, to our sponsors this is 4 years of good publicity, to our coaching management the pinnacle, to every player in the world a chance to be the best for 4 years ,Ronaldo would probably pay City to be involved, the next Ballon winner will probably come from this competition.
So it is not about pushing anybody out, just not taking them, this is going to be a fast, tricky, and cheating cup in hot weather.
In Savic loan to buy Torino the clown price of Europe is very different from Ederson and more effective,
in Kerkez loan to buy LB.
In Lamptey register LWB.
In Branthwaite loan to buy CB.
In Aina register RWB
In Frimpong RWB loan
Bring back Bah
Not going Ederson, Ake, Stones. Akanji leave them to get fit for next season, if they stay, move Khusanov in to the RB spot.
In Baleba loan to buy DM B2B.
Not going Kovacic, Gundogan, maybe Bernardo?
Going KDB one last hurrah in a younger faster squad.
In Osimhen loan RW ST LW.
In Sesko loan to buy ST.
Not going McAtee.
In Osimhen loan.
Clubs will loan us players to up their value, out of contract players will jump at the chance of going, to better their contracts

Wouldn’t surprise me if Everton took a punt as a statement signing for the first season in their new stadium

What's all this loan to buy stuff? When has osimhen ever played out wide? Sesko as well? How many strikers do you think we need?

Lamptey?

Why would clubs loan us their players? I'm a bit baffled by that tbh

No irony, the clubs judgement led to a treble, 4 in a row, 6 out of 7 PL s, centurions, domestic grand slam, yet one poor season when the players that delivered that reach a wall, and all of a sudden people don't trust the clubs transfer judgement, some don't trust the manager. Knee jerk ,short sighted nonsense. The lack of perspective of some is astounding.
Not to mention they couldn't predict this many injuries. And no matter how much you plan, its hard to plan for the long term absence of the World's best player.

Rodri and Haaland’s injuries were entirely predictable tbf given how much they had been flogged into the ground without a reliable rotation option

That they 'may' get injured is predictable... But whats the solution? Buy the 2nd best DM and 2nd best striker in the world and sit them on the bench?

The issue isn't predicting, the issue is what do you do about it?

It doesn't matter who you get, they won't fully cover the loss.

Personally these four is all we need this summer and that's around 280m

Reiknders
Wirtz
Cambiaso
Costa

I want Costa because like Ederson when they make a mistake it dormant effect them whatsoever!
That would be my ideal list but it would need room made off the free list. Think we need at least one incoming to be home grown replacing Grealish,
