The Squad planning thread

City needs more options in attack, so selling Nunes and replacing him by an attacking player in January would be a very pragmatic decision for me.
We are adding Echeverri to the team in January

and btw, we don't need to sell anyone, we still have a place in the squad

Having a place in the squad and having minutes to share are very different things.
We're already overloaded in midfield. Foden, KDB, Bernardo, Gündoğan, Nunes, McAtee, Kovačić, Rodri plus Echeverri and maybe O'Reilly and Wright as well - all wanting to play central midfield.

City have the third oldest squad in the PL…but the best.

On my screen shows our starting XI average age as 6th highest, but also only includes players with minutes so Foden, Rodri & Bobb are excluded

Either way, wouldn't really pay attention to it, our squad is ready for years to come

Eddie (31 - young for a keeper)

Rico (20), Gvardiol (22)

Dias (27), Akanji (29), Ake (29), Stones (30) (+ Doyle)

Rodri (28), Nunes (26), Kova (30), Bernardo (30)

Phil (24), Doku (22), Savinho (20), Bobb (21), Jack (29)

Haaland (23)

The core of our squad is a good age, most have their primes ahead of them and that's before we naturally get replacements for KDB, Walker, Gundogan when they leave over the next 12-24 months

People here are obsessed about number 10 like Musiala or Wirtz whilst City has Foden, Bobb and Grealish can also play here. Also I’m rather sure Silva will stay here till 2020. Savinho also can play 10. The problem is lack of clinical finishers apart from Haaland and Foden. Alvarez has gone, very important player IMO, who has delivered 10-15 goals, and the club did nothing to replace him.

Stats for 23/24, League & Europe
Savinho - 9G/10A
Gundogan - 5G/9A
Alvarez - 16G/11A

We've replaced Alvarez goal contributions, it's indirect but we have (also once Bobb comes back I'm sure he will pick some of this up)

Kayky to Sparta Rotterdam takes #4 of our 6 overseas loan spots.
2 left for possibly:

- Nunes to Atletico?
- Kaboré (maybe leaving on a permanent, last contract year!)
- Filip Stevanovic (2026 contract, Waalwijk last year)
- JWE (maybe national loan, doubt he will stay here)

Cancelo leaving on a permanent would be top news, but he didn't agree yet...
Kayky (Sparta Rotterdam)
Joel Ndala (PSV Eindhoven)
Tomas Galvez (Linzer ASK)
Yan Couto (Borussia Dortmund)
Issa Kaboré (Benfica)
Claudio Echeverri (River Plate)
Máximo Perrone (Como)

That's 7. Is Echeverri officially registered as a future transfer and not a loan?

Yeah, Echeverri is a City player on loan to River Plate til end of 2024.

Ndala and Galvez count as U21 and club-trained and are exempt of the max 6 intl loans.

Filip Stevanovic left City for Lommel on a permanent, probably for some training compensation payment.

Bottom line we have 5 players on intl loans now:
Couto, Echeverri, Kayky, Kaboré and Perrone.
