The Squad planning thread

Imo the biggest problem is the defense and cdm spot.

All of our league wins were due to a strong defensive, which THEN gives your attack a strong foundation to work off.

Now we still need future planning for the aging attackers, but I think getting McAtee/O Reilly more involved, then buying a 2nd striker type player or like for like Haaland like striker, plus Florian Wirtz (someone like him) would be 2 good additions to replace the aging players over time.

We need another CDM to play with or without Rodri.

And then probably atleast 3 more tall agile CBs who can play RB or LB (become part of the back 3) as well since Stones, Ake, Walker and Akanji are all 30 or over. Dias age is in the middle, and Gvardiol is the only young defender.

Walker needs to be sold.

Rico Lewis is not a defender. He will never be elite there. Mold him to be an 8, thats his best chance to develop into a top player. Will NEVER happen as a defender.

So thats about 6 players id like to see brought in over the next year or so, while using McAtee/O Reilly more.

That's different to there being an injury crisis, lacking a goal threat, chasing games and still not getting any minutes. Pep also praised him and his ability in small spaces - having so few minutes is daft

still dont think he'll kick off or complain about it this season.
 
I’m guessing McAtee accepted that stance with a full squad but with 10 or 11 of the main players missing he’d be forgiven for thinking he’d get a few more minutes than he has.
 
Pay the release clause (€60m each) for both Martin Zubimemdi and Alex Baena. Zubi can be the Rodri cover and Baena will offer some much needed playmaking and chance creation.

Baena will make Jack super expendable though.
 
The should be the easy transfer window with evidence at hand - we are looking at a top champions league winning club trying to revitalise an aging squad with a GOAT manager at the helm of it affairs - the club also made 100s of millions in sale so adhering to pesky FFP PSR laws won’t be an issue.

Last two seasons we have been unlike City with most of our signing being reactive then proactive.
Also I do understand that Pep is the greatest of all time but allowing him again the time to keep delaying his extension or eventual departure is also causing a delay in team upheaval.
I think one way or the other , he should decide whether he stays or goes before the Tottenham game so that the team can rally on for another try at the title while the club Txiki and Viara can take a proper shot at the transfer window to help us escape the injury crises.

I hate this to be another Pelligrini season with the tough wait for the next manager to come in.

Yeah. In the space of 18 months we‘ve gone from this:

—-Akanji—Dias—Ake—-
———Rodri—Stones——

to this:

——-—-CB1—-CB2———-
————-Kovacic——Gvardiol
-—Lewis

No great surprise that teams are finding it so easy to cut through us.
 
Over the next two summers, I think we need:

RB - Livramento, gets better every time I watch him

CB - Fuck knows, but ideally a player with a bit of pace

DM - Zubimendi, no brainer

AM - Wirtz, but I think he’s off to Madrid

RW/LW/ST - A player that can cover across the front, possibly Rodrygo
 
We should raid Real Sociedad,

Zubimendi and Kubo both have release clauses both would improve us.

Aramburu looks a prospect as well 22 year old right back

All of that can happen irrespective of what/when he decides

Agree Zubimendi is definitely worth a punt (assuming he's willing to leave Sociedad) but Kubo? I'm really not sure how the latter improves our current squad other than to add to the numbers.

But yes, I'm being mischievous of course. You're right in that, generally, they're the exceptions proving the rule that it's notoriously difficult to prize away world class players during the January window.

Spain have release clauses , clubs can’t do anything if triggered, Zubimendi has a 60 million clause we just have to trigger it, if he agrees to come.
