The Squad planning thread

Easy to say that with hindsight.

No doubt both are top players but there was not a chance they were going to get the game time they needed with us.

Same issue now with McAtee, I have no doubt in a couple of seasons we will be saying what a player we let go.

But the fact remains that Pep for whatever reason did not rate or trust them and will his record , how can we argue?
Of course. No hard feelings, ultimately Pep and the management team and the individual players have their own reasons and ultimately the treble and four in a row have been the success. Just difficult when you look across and think those two players would be perfect for us! Life goes on!

If were still winning games and titles no-one would care but that's how it goes.

We have had a dream decade, now time to step back, rebuild and come back stronger and more together than ever.

Think the only one in hindsight ive no idea 'why they didnt' was the Lavia buyback in Kalvins 2nd season. The rest I can pretty much see the reason and call. That one is still baffling.
I dont think we have really missed out on those 400mins hes played for Chelsea since leaving Southampton.

Also, just because he has a buy back, there has to be two willing parties. For all we know Txiki spoke to the lad and he said you can fuck right off, didnt give me a chance when i was there as teenager and now you want me because your latest big money signing has failed, no thanks.

True, but there wasn't even a hint of us going to the table etc. Wonder if the player/agent gets a say in the initial buy back going in. Lots i don't know just that's the one i don't see a solid reasoning for at the time over the others.

Why would there be? Not being funny but the lad was a starter at Southampton, hardly talking about negotiating for Haaland here.

To a certain extent they will but also the release clause is negotiated between City and Southampton and it isn't a guarantee, just allows us to buy them for a set price if all parties agree.

When Pep walked through the door on his first day he was utterly ruthless with a club legend in Joe Hart.

I get the feeling that same ruthlessness will return and I can see several shocks coming in the coming months with who leaves the club and I am not talking about the likes of KDB and Gundo.

There are a few of the younger players that have set their standards but we have seen them drop off badly, I would think that's totally unacceptable to Pep.

Offer Wolves £100 million for Cunha and Lemina. Cunha is a quality attacker and will surely move to a bigger club next summer. He's of the required quality. Lemina is 31 but he can play the #6 role for the rest of this season (physical and with reasonable ability) and can be used to rest Rodri from next summer onwards on a 2-3 year deal. Both will be attracted by CL football. Go for both in January or Lemina (desperately needed position to fill) in January and Cunha in summer 2025.

They are all City legends and have played a huge part in our incredible success in recent years, a contribution that will never be forgotten. But in sport, sometimes you have to put romance and emotions aside.

Walker
Stones
Gundogan
Bernardo
KDB

We must part ways with them in the best possible way, for the future of this club. If it's up to me I will add Grealish and Nunes to the list as well.

We need a new RB, CB, LB, DM, CM and SS, maybe a GK as well if Ederson wants to leave again.

6-7 new players in one transfer window? This is never going to happen, certainly not the first transfer window of a new director of football. It should takes at least two years to integrate so many new players into a football team, especially Pep's team.
This only highlights the magnitude of our last transfer window's failure. You don't need to be a genius to understand that the worn and tired Rodri needed a back up player for the rotation. You can't sell a goal scorer like Alvarez, and for so much money, and not bring any replacement. You can't continue to rely on Stones, who gets injured every time a fresh breeze blows, or Walker, who loses his pace and for him its game over. It was written in giant letters on the wall but no one wanted to read it.
