The Squad planning thread

We need a replacement for de bruyne in terms of creating chances and getting assists.
Grealish and foden can replace him position wise on the pitch but neither have the creative ability of de bruyne to pick out a pass consistently

I'd agree but there are not many players in world football that can give us what Kev has done for a decade. I think we need to build a team that shares those assists rather than try to look for the Holy Grail. We need much more from all over the pitch. Love Jack and Phil but there is no way they will get close to the numbers Kev has given us - Erling doesn't move as much when Kev is not on the team.

Pace, quickness of thought and hopefully full backs that can offer more in both attack and defending.

O'Reilly has left back well covered. Not to mention Gvardiol himself is a CB. Even though we've begun to stop thinking of him as one

If O'Reilly can become a great Pep left back ( and i believe he can) then we really dont need Doyle to stay. Let him go on loan and develop
I doubt O`Reilly would be very happy with a LB role on the long-term. Based on Peps words, it sounds like Nico wants to play further up the pitch, either as an 8 or a 10. This is Doyle`s 4th loan, 3 of them have been in the Championship and he has played very well. Perfect Ake replacement as he can play both LB and CB

Pep’s comments probably, I have a funny feeling the club are slowly trying to let us fans know that there might not be much movement in the summer.
Well if that’s the case next season will be very similar to this, maybe a slight improvement depending on Rodri getting back to full fitness and form, which could be the his time next season.

Well it won't because we have already added 5 players to the squad and seen improvement, so adding another 2 or 3 in summer with Rodri added back in the squad and team will be nothing like this seasons.

With the addition of Bobb too. It’s like he forgot we have just spent £200m on 4 new signings that are just bedding in.

A goalkeeper, centre back, right back, two midfielders, possibly a centre forward and we’re good to go.
A Goalie, RB, CM. I think we are good to go. Would like a stud CB. But we don't need one desperately. We'll have 6 to start the session most likely..
Dias, Khusanov, Reis, Akanji, Gvardiol and one of Stones or Ake will probably be here

Doyle has been on loan for 4 years.
It's now or never for him
If both Ake and Stones go, then i can see it. Otherwise, sell cheap with a buyback clause.

I have a funny feeling Pep is trying to keep senior players who will be leaving motivated and feel wanted.

There will be a big turnover in the summer and maybe a shock.

If the club is so naive that they don't realize we need a young attacking midfielder this summer, we are in trouble.

For the record, I don't think the top brass at the club are naive about our issues.

It depends on id they believe a mix of Foden, Marmoush, Echeverri and Bobb are more than enough for that role.

Personally, i think they might try to get Wirtz because he is a potential World Class player. But failing to get him, I'm not sure many more would be overwhelmingly superior to the 4 already here and capable of playing that role.

So its either find a superstar or expect 1 or more of the abundance of fledgling talent you have, develop into a superstar

Reading the headlines of the last few days and seeing the fact that the whole old guard could stay (especially depressing are Bernardo and Gundogan, the turtles of this team), this is what our staff could look like for next season

If you beleive there won’t be a single transfer this summer then yes. While I don't think there will be as many as some think, I’m pretty sure there will be 3 or 4.posters need to not react to every random twitter story., and use their own common sense to make their guesses.
Everyone will have different guesses but mine (today) are Ederson , Walker, Phillips, Kovacic, Nunes Grealish go then one of Bernardo, Gundogan too. We bring in a keeper, full back and home grown midfielder.

It will be a big mistake not getting a top RB in the summer, but understand that graphic based on what we've heard recently reference players possibly staying.

Would moving on all of stones, ake and akanji and replacing them with a left back, right back and callum doyle be too big of a risk?

Would leave us with Dias, gvadiol, khusanov, reis and doyle as options at centre half

There's no way we move on Akanji with his injury record (one proper injury in 3 seasons), experience and versatility.

Stones and Ake are a different discussion, but I can't see anyone buying them.

Will be tough to move on from Stones. He's at about 250k/wk and will have a year left after this. Idk if anyone can match his wages given his injury record and he has no incentive to leave.

Ake might be easier to move. On reasonable 160k/wk wages but has a troubling injury history. However just like Stones, it's tricky to replace them because neither takes up a foreign spot on the team.

Akanji is also on a lucrative 180k/wk wages per reports. He's the most durable of the 3 CBs but again he might not have a reason to leave a sporting project such as City's in his prime. 2 years left after this year.
