The Squad planning thread

Whatever you think of others we bought basing what league we buy from on those players would be daft.Besides at the end of the day I will still always put the clubs judgement well above anybody on bluemoon.
Im not saying we dont buy from the prem league that would be daft...but the names we are looking at dont exactly lead to confidence....
Look at recent buys that have been poor...Nunes, Phillips and you could even argue Grealish for what we paid for him.....none of them have ripped up trees and two of them have been disasters

If you watch the recent games in the CL...look at how PSG Bayern, Barca are playing...technically gifted players everywhere all over the pitch.....Wharton could become that but Gibbs White aint the answer to be playing against those teams

Fair enough, thogh I think Wharton would be good enough.

The difference between PSG and us is that they have 4 players who can score and dribble as good as Doku. Compared to our 2 wingers they score from everywhere. Also they have more freedom of movement compared to our offensive players.
Their midfield has much more energy too.

we already have enough squad players....Doku, Grealish, Rico, Nunes (and even if two of those leave (Grealish and Nunes being the most likely) we need to buy quality in....we have seen what has happened by buying average players (especially in midfield - Nunes, Phillips being big mistakes)

When you are losing thelikes of KDB, Gundo, who are world class players you have to replace them with world class players....if not the obvious happens and looking at the list of names being thrown around (Gibbs White, Delap and a few others) that is what will happen if they come to fruition.

I'm not sure how many of Grealish, Doku, Lewis and Nunes I'd actually class as reliable. They are squad players yes, but reliable? I suppose we could say Grealish is predictable, but that's a bit different.

The thing about this summer is there are so many pieces to juggle - moving players on to create space, whether it's HG or foreign player spaces that get freed up, whether the players we're after want to join us and aren't silly money.

I'll be judging the transfer window at the very end of it. We can't be expecting top foreign stars for every signing, because it just won't happen, but if there's two great players with a few reliable ones thrown in, then I'll be more than happy.

So your answer is you don't trust the club that has delivered so much. Up to you but I do and can't wait to see what the next chapter brings. Sit back, enjoy.
No, I do not have faith in the club signing top quality players who don't have a release clause. This massively limits our targets and why we start the summer linked with Bellingham/Rice but end up with Nunes.

Since Aguero left nearly 4 years ago what top quality players have we signed? Grealish (Release Clause), Haaland (Release Clause), Gvardiol. The rest are either squad players or unproven youngsters.

3 players over 4 years were bought where we thought they were top quality. Turns out if you don't buy much quality over a 4 year period the squad quality massively drops and you end up with a team of aging players or players not good enough to start.

Tough.

I read a good quote from Maitland Niles about Cherki. Says he's really improved his work rate and it's taken him up a level. Called him a wizard with the ball and most talented he's ever seen.

High praise and his YouTube highlights back it up. Has ridiculous ability with the ball.

I think the club would be all over Cherki, especially for the money. His numbers are absolutely ridiculous for his age.

The problem is, would Pep be able to coach him? He is a proper old school free spirit player that I think if he had rigid tactics to adhere to he would go to the dogs quite quickly.

Not disputing that one mate, but who the Eff is maitland-niles? Is his opinion like troy deeney's?

Yeah we have a tired team after 4/6 years of none stop football! Pep likes the slow passing possession football then speed it up when there is an opportunity but even that's not happening!
we slowed down the season we won champions league before that we was wide open but easy to beat in europe

im not sitting on bench while rodri plays every week
same with haaland till alvarez left
same with kdb and gundogan marhez theres more we had fantastic team over years not that the media noticed

Why would they need to come as an understudy and not competition? Who has actually replaced Rodri? Kovacic played alongside him last season and Gundogan played alongside him before then. We have signed Nico but the plan will be to play alongside him next season.

The summer after the treble could we have not bought top quality to play alongside him like we ended up doing anyway?

Hard to say. We need players to fit our system but retain their magic - ala KDB.

Wirtz might be more willing to be coached in that aspect.

I agree and it brings me back to the criticism of the clubs recent transfers. Keeper and a pure striker I understand as only 1 can start each game but any other position especially with the level of rotation pep does and it just sounds like an excuse for us not getting the players we want.

Looking at the last England squad, it's difficult to see players who will obviously improve us.
Livramento looks the standout.
Bowen and Eze may be worth looking at depending on cost

Where does it say we are replacing KDB with Gibbs White, if its even true we are interested in Gibbs White. Why couldn’t he be replacing one of the other players probably leaving.
Then you make it worse by admitting you haven’t even watched him, madness.
I’m self deprecating my dear.

We have gone from the likes of KDB, Raheem, Sane, Kyle, Eddy, Bernard. Ruben, JS, Riyad to Numes, Gonzo,, Doku, and Kova.
We have no quality at full back and have an ageing squad, with little depth.
And a manager who is sadly going in two years.
How do you entice players for the long term when the coach has strongly hinted that he's gone in two years.
If we can persuade Pep to commit to 5 years then things will move in the right direction very quickly
