The Squad planning thread

I think the current squad will be gutted come the summer. I think it will be a summer like the one after peps first season where 5/6 are moved for free or very little transfer fee. And some new additions coming in.

Just need to confirm CL football first.
 
I think for us to move upwards, we need to move Silva, Gundo, Kova and Akanji on, Peps 'trust' for these players gets to a point where we bring new players in, like Nico and he can't get a game, Akanji comes back in for Nunes who's been good going forward in fullback, then comes out after games defending poor performance after poor performance and plays them again and again when we can all see the issues.

I've said before that our wingers do not offer anything in front of goal. I feel that for Haaland, at times, we just float balls in and out of play, and there is nothing direct or threatening about Savio / Foden out wide at all. No overlaps from the fullbacks make it so easy to play against us.

There is a lot of issues. We NEED to get CL to allow for any rebuild to even take place.

Probably won't be that brutal but hopefully it is. Viana can help Pep by taking responsibility for the players he loves.
 
Worrying thing is, aswell as fullbacks and two midfielders, we look like we need two wingers with an end product aswell.
Going to take more than one seafon to fix this shit.
 
As badly as we need a talent influx, what worries me most is the squad mentality. There's something off and there has been all year.

Haaland has lost some ruthlessness and cutting edge. Phil looks a shell of himself. Dias is not the commanding presence he once was. KDB has lost some fire. Bernardo runs and runs but has lost the scrappiness.

The injuries and aging has undoubtedly taken their toll, but I genuinely think the decline has been accelerated because the squad has lost fire, leadership, desire. And I've said it a few times on here but I can't shake the feeling something is going on in the locker room.

But that's all useless conjecture.

The outgoings will critical this summer because I think we desperately need to trim the deadweight more than anything. I think Ortega goes regardless but we could lose Eddie as well. Probably 2-3 or the defenders across Ake, Stones, Akanji, Nunes - they just can't stay healthy. Grealish obviously and probably McAtee as well. I don't there will be (or should be) enough minutes for Gundogan, Kovacic, AND Bernardo.

In order of what we need IMO
- A #10 above all else
- At least one, preferably two, actual fucking full backs for the love of all that is holy
- A #8 unless Pep thinks Nico Gonzalez can be that guy
- A winger with some actual end product

This is probably a two year rebuild, the realistic ideal summer is sorting out the outgoings and hitting on 2 key incomings.

If he doesn't well have the same problems, no full back signings or guys that have no pace which we desperately need

Squad needs a cull, and we need to be aggressive, need to leave sentiment at the door and Pep is a big part of that, he's too loyal to underperforming and last it players

We need 5 or 6 players that go straight into the XI, no pussy footing about

Peps got enough credit in the bank to be able to change this team. Hes said himself hes responsible for not wanting lots of change last summer because he didnt know if he would be here. Now he is i think well do 5 or 6 players in and 5 players out like after his first season.
 
After seeing all the rumours, I'd like to see four new starters in this team next season.

Need to sign someone to play on the right and also a left back.

O'Reilly needs more opportunities to go into midfield next season and Foden has to earn his spot back in this starting XI.

For as good as he was last season, he's been fucking dreadful this season.

Some good players but there’s no natural width and we desperately need powerful, overlapping fullbacks. Similarly, Wirtz is the only real creative threat in such a team. Last two games have shown our inability to penetrate a side anchored to the foot of the table and a mid-table side.

I fear we're going to face even more of this next season and need players who can move the ball faster in tight spaces. We have Bobb and Echeverri already, and Wirtz and Cherki are also in that mode, but lads like Gibbs-White and Reijnders need space and the pitch to run up and down. If teams continue to retreat like we’re seeing, they will be largely superfluous.
 
We need pace and power. Football has moved on and half decent players that have those attributes are now doing better than slow, skinny but technically gifted ones.

We need to find players built like rugby wingers and centres with pace.
 
Lewis and McAtee must no longer be in Peps plans.
Not even on the bench.
At the same time he had Khusanov and Reiss on it who haven't kicked a ball in months.
Bobb and Rodri to come back but that's about it.
I'm giving up on Stones and Ake.
I cannot fathom what Pep will do next.

A RB is a priority too but i think we're going to need at least three defensive players in the team, especially if one of our FB's is playing as wingback.

I really hope O'Reilly keeps improving, if he does he has to play imo.

Next season is a big one for Phil, but i'm assuming he hits last seasons form, if so he plays.
 
I would take a punt on Eze but age and injuries are little off putting and he isn't at peak KDB's standards. Gibbs-White is bit of a meh signing and would probably cost the same as we paid for Grealish.

In this team O'Reilly provides the width on the left.
If Phil hits last seasons form, him, Wirtz and Marmoush would be brilliant behind Erling.

We have some great young players and if we get Wirtz and Reijnders i don't see us buying MGW.
He's not good enough for me to block the way of them.
