The Squad planning thread

I actually think savinho would of been useful v Spursy
The biggest difference between him and Bobb will always be pace. The wolves game won’t change my opinion and the spurs game made it clear. Bobb is very technical but doesn’t have the pace to get away from his opposition. Relying on him only is crazy and arrogant - same with us not taking matters into our own hands and not getting an RB and relying on only one true fullback in the whole squad

Careful, if you don't consider Oscar world-class after good 5 minutes against Newcastle you are in for trouble. Let's just give the starting 11 spot to a totally untested academy player. He is good, he is talented, but it's arrogant and not very smart.

Ederson,Trafford, Betinelli, Ortega

Khusanov, Stones, Dias, Gvardiol, Ake, Ait Nouri, Akanji

Lewis, Nuñes, Rodri, González, Reinjders, Bernardo, O'Reilly, GUndo

Cherki, Foden, Savinho, Doku, Bobb

Haaland, Marmoush

26 players 19 NHG
Gundo and Akanji highly unlikely to leave (Why would they?)
Savinho wants out, Rodrigo too little time to persue.
STILL needs 3 non home grown players to leave, Otherwise they would be a bad apple in a sac.
Stones is integral. He is probably the best CB if fully fit.
It might be better to keep ederson than but Dunna. Because if he leaves than both Donna and Trafford would not have ball playing skills. Trafford is as good a shot stopper as Donna but with less experience.

TOO many new faces... We need time to jell.
THIS IS A TRANSITION SEASON FOR US.
The positive is... EVEN LIverpool (5 new players) and Arsenal (4/5 new players) our main title rivals made the season transition by buying too many players.

*** UPDATE *** :

Where should we expect contract news?
---> TO DO list:

Permanent outgoings:

- McAtee -> Forest! - DONE
- Doyle -> Wrexham! - DONE
- Ederson -> Galatasaray ?
- Ortega -
- Akanji -> Leverkusen ?
- Gündogan -
- Savinho -> Tottenham ?

Loans:
- Reis -> Girona loan! - DONE
- Echeverri -> Leverkusen loan! - DONE
-
Grealish -> Everton loan! - DONE
- Nypan -> Boro loan! - DONE
-
Alleyne (new, 2030?) -> Watford loan! - DONE
-
Phillips
- Kaboré
- Wilson-Esbrand
- Breckin
- Grant
- Katongo
- Susoho

IF Ederson, Ortega, Akanji, Gundo and Savinho all leave
AND Donnarumma came in,

we had 2 open spots on the 17 free spots
and 1 open spot on the 4 academy trained HG.

Make of that what you will... ;)

I don't know. Rodrygo might convert some of the chances we create.

Right back should be an easy fix but a new midfielder is going to be tough. Who realistically is there that's available and better than what we have?
The entire Spuds midfield on the evidence of Saturday. Right back clearly is not an easy fix although one would think it should be easy to find someone superior to Lewis but maybe not if the player has to be able to do what Pep wants. We need to acccept we are in a sticky transition period during an era when football style may be moving in a different direction than the one we have mastered in the recent past. Where will we be this time next year?

You could argue we’ve actually made too many signings and there’s been too much change. Now the team is unsettled and because of the squad size there is too much rotation.

It feels like a transition season.

I have to say I find the strategy around the goalkeepers absolutely bizarre.

It seems for all the world we want Donnarumma in, but that's after spending £30m on Trafford and with us still being in talks with Galatasaray over Ederson and with us still having Ortega on the books. I also think that when there is literally not a single right back in the squad, the idea of spending £60m on two goalkeepers in one summer to be absolutely mad.

I agree. I think it might actually be unsettling the defence and team in general. We’ve got goalkeepers who don’t know if there on the bench or playing each week.

The 'Squad Planning Thread' is great.
Cos since the CWC I don't see that we've planned our transfer business that well.

We're overstocked with CBs.
Short of a right back.
Short in midfield, have a goalkeeper we don't need and one who doesn't appear to want to be here!
