The Squad planning thread

If we are looking for a DM, Tonali would be my choice. He is getting better and better. Could be good also for Donnarumma to have another Italian in our team. Probably not a popular choice since we just got done over by the Geordie club. If we take Tonali from them they can bring Anderson back to his home club. Everyone happy.
I'd take Tonali in a heartbeat...

Fucking hell that is some sob story you're writing for one of the highest paid managers of all time who gets to spend hundreds of millions a year and carte blanche to do what he wants.

Laughable to think Pep isn't the loudest voice in the room when it comes to identifying talent and which players they are buying.

Maybe Pep is losing his touch with identifying players, doesn't want to go after the top stars because they challenge him too much, wants to nurture youth players and youngsters and players we can bring in from clubs below us because they think Pep is a god.

The club have pandered to everything Pep wants, when we were on our arse in Jan the club smashed open the bank and gave him hundreds of millions to drag ourselves into the CL. Get to the summer and spend more money and now its going tits up again we wheel out the excuses that A, B, C and D were never good enough and can't believe we didn't buy X, Y and Z.

You're living in an alternate reality if you think Viana signed Reijnders and Cherki and just dropped them off at the CFA and is forcing Pep to play them.

Last night we had posts like 'Pep is picking him to show the board how shit he is'
What sort of fucking nonsense is this.
Pep might want to think about picking a team to win a game, or inspire a squad of highly paid individuals to get off their arse and actually perform when Haaland isn't around to bail them out.

It's getting really boring to just keep spending money because Pep has lost his touch to fix the underlying problems in the team.
1 million percent agree...

The problem is recruitment and the direction of the recruitment. We were fantastic on the market till 2021. Then City has become penny pinchers and apart from Haaland they did nothing serious. Instead of targeting Olise in 2023 to replace Mahrez, Rice or Bellingham, even MacAllister to replace Gundogan, reacting quicker with replacing Alvarez, they did nothing or they bought wrong player. It’s up to the board and latest period of Txiki.

Serious question: is Matheus Nunes good enough? Is Savinho, Bobb, Lewis, maybe Khusanov good enough? The answer is easy: is all about quality or lack of quality or too many project players for whom Man City is simply too big - Bobb, Lewis, Savinho etc.
The problem is Pep's lost his pull. Bellingham (who I don't rate, Rice (who I do), and Wirtz (TBD) were all that Summer's main guy. We moved for all 3 and got none.

Where was Txiki Begiristain when PSG has signed Fabian Ruiz, Vitinha and Joao Neves? Or Liverpool Gravenberch and MacAllister? If Pep wanted Bruno and love him at Lyon - where was Txiki in January of 2022? Serious question: how it is possible to LOSE every single battle for a midfielder and have zero plan in place to replace Silva, Gundogan, Fernandinho, KDB in time with quality players. This rebuild is chaotic and absolutely without any plan.

We used to be top on the transfer market, now City is the shadow of themselves on the market as well.

Savinho as a Mahrez replacement xD Gosh… Riyad must be laughing right now. 34 year old Mahrez would be better than this fanny. Here we are right now.
Tbf I think he smashed the Fernandinho replacement with Rodri, and Nico G is the Rodri replacement. Both joined whilst the other was still at the club.

That’s where we fucked up with Gundo, KDB.

Reinjders and Cherki, or alternatives, should have come in last season

Estavao cost Chelsea €67m with all the add-ons. He was 18.

Rodrygo and Vini JR both cost Madrid €45m, both were 18 at the time

All 3 of them were huge starlets back in South America in the youth ranks and when they first broke through. A lot was expected of all of them. Estavao has been tipped as the best talent since Neymar for years.

Savio was seen a talent but nowhere near as lauded like those 3 and as a result he only cost CFG €6.5m.

Sums it up then. We signed cheap and got shit product, what a surprise.

In other areas we have spent but it’s on a whole lot of average recently. I don’t know why Khusanov is seen as such a cult figure by some, he’s shite. Reijnders, had one good game for us and nothing since. Is he Rice/Bellingham level? Is he fuck. Why are wasting money on these players instead of identifying the very best available and throwing everything at them? Not just cash, but the whole City package; Pep, the amount of trophies, CL every year.

What can any other club in England offer better than us? Nothing. So why the fuck does Rice go to Arsenal, Estevao to Chelsea and Wirtz to Liverpool, and we’re lumbered with fucking Lewis, Savinho, Bobb?

We need ambition in the transfer market. Who is the best RB out there, cost no object, that could feasibly move if we grease the palms of his agent/parents, whoever it needs, then get on and do that. Not fuck about looking for bloody ‘projects’ or average midfielders who are nowhere near CL/title winning level and playing them out of position.

100% guaranteed that you're not responding to a Blue there.

It’s clearly not as easy as you think it is. Had this argument a million times on here but people are acting like we lost out on Bellingham who went to Palace instead of City, he went to Real Madrid ffs. Rice is clearly a homebody, didn’t want to leave London and think made that clear at the end which is why we pulled out. The 115 charges probably hasn’t helped in some players minds, no matter what assurances we give it’s natural for anyone to be wary and until we have the decision it’s going to weigh on people’s minds.

This we need to sell before we buy is bull Chelsea had 3 teams! You then pick the best and tell the rest look for another club or a loan! For me we need to buy a winger and a midfielder this January especially when we don’t know when Rodri is back or when back will he stay fit or up to speed quick enough..

We lack physicality. We get bullied off the ball to much, when coming up against physical teams we struggle. You need a mix of both now in the Premier League. Technical ability and physicality

Semenyo , Gibbs White , Anderson or cheaper version Conor Gallagher signings like these would improve us physically

Add Wharton to the list

FU*K ALL AND GO ALL IN

Like Liverpool done last summer hmm smh

£450mil

Anderson,Wharton,Semeyno,Guehi, Livramento.

The club would never do it.

They're obsessed with winning whilst spending relatively little.

That strategy has now caught up with them after a series of terrible buys which we're now stuck with.

Relatively little?

Just the third highest spenders in Europe in the past three seasons.

We are on our way to great things, IMO.
I'd be surprised if other fans don't look at some of our players in a very different way to that which is conveyed here.

We have been blessed with success and we erred in not replacing some players a year earlier than we did. It's reasonable to assume that we are a year behind where we would like to be and the club has said as much. We don't have 100% success in the market because nobody does, and for every Estevao, there are a litany of Chelsea players out on loans or failing to make an impression. Arsenal have spent a fortune for five years and have won nothing - it isn't our right. Liverpool, champions, spent like water and have been battered for weeks now, including by us.

We all want our success, and it is hard to become accustomed to not being the best by some distance, but every team in the league and in Europe knows that we might easily turn them over. Our average team age is now 24 and was 29. That's a big change.
