The Squad planning thread

Which are one and the same, surely?

De Bruyne left. Walker left. Mahrez left. All world class in their prime.

None of them replaced by players considered "world class" at the point of signing.

Who should we have signed to replace the above who were of the same level?
I’d say:
Dumfries
Kvararakhelia
Guimaraes
I hope we don't sign any player this summer, just clear the books

Say bye to the following :

1- Bernardo
2- Stones
3- Ake
4-Kalvin Philips
5-Rico Lewis
6- Kovacic
7- Ruben Dias
8-Max Elleyne
9-Mfuni
10-Reindjers

Gring back : Vitor Reis,Echeverri,
And use : Nypan & Mcaidoo

Starting Eleven for next season

No way is Dias going. Hes been improving a lot recently and getting back to his old game tbf. Hes certainly better than Reis at present.

I disagree 100% about Nico Gonzales. I’d sell him quick, but it’s all opinion.

Rudolph will stay at least one more year

Also we will regret selling Mfuni long term, he is seen as a next one to graduate from academy to senior squad

Nypan will be loaned out most likely

Dias will stay, he is his prime right now

We heave truly messed up the rebuild in the last couple of transfer windows.....

Sav
Reijnders
Marmoush (not a flop but again doesnt fit)

These 3 need to go

Big questions over Semenyo - where does he fit into this team....the system trying to play him with Haaland doesnt work. But is he good enough to play wide? - I really dont think he is

We also will need to replace Stones, Ake, Kovacic, for players that can play regularly and add energy.

Rico Lewis needs to be sold plus Grealish and Akanji on loan need to go.

We need a right back to at least compete with Nunes.

This in terms of numbers and cost is huge

You can maybe get away with keeping Semenyo (and we will) - but the rest of these are done for one reason or another...they cant or wont contribute enough or are not good enough....thats 8 first team players that need replacing.

Anderson is clearly a target and defintely is worth the risk
Tonali I am not sold on but looking at the rebuild needed we def need a midfielder.
Im presuming Reis will be looked at to see whether he is good enough to come back and compete

But we definitely need others

If Rodri was to leave (I dont think he will) but that is a huge set of shoes to fill.
Bernardo will leave

Its already a long way back from where we are (we aint playing well so a cup final and second place is not success in my eyes)....get this summer wrong and we will slip further behind....but 7-8 players at least that somehow need to be improved on/replaced is huge

Huge exaggeration, we will most likely finish around 80 points maybe about 6 or 7 behind arsenal, 2nd highest scorers 2nd best GA, possibly with a cup. Even without summer signings this squad would be better next season, with 2 or 3 of the right signings overtaking arsenal and getting 90 points isn’t that big a gap to make up. 7/8 or players is way over what we will need.

Javi Guerra at Valencia has had a few Rodri comparisons this season. 22 years old if we want a Rodri replacement he looks to be the one that will take his long term spot in the national team.

United were heavily linked to him last summer

Wasn’t good against Real

I think we should be looking at La liga more than the Prem, there's an abundance of talent right now in La liga which you could probably get for a fair price.

Possibly true mate but @tolmie's hairdoo has seemingly posted on X that we want both so i`m not sure how else to accomodate them both unless Rodri goes?
Think Tolmie posts what he hears, but also think over the last few windows what he hears is far less reliable than a few years ago,I'm sure we are looking at both and Tonali could be fall back if Anderson falls through. If Rodri did leave which I don't really expect we could well go for both but not sure both would start together.

No such thing as a second team for cups, almost all of the second team need to be able to slot into the first team to cover rotation and injuries.

If Rodri left maybe, but don't think he will, not next season anyway.Even if he does though not sure Anderson or Tonali are better 6s than Gonzalez.

They have one skill naturally that Gonzalez doesn't and that's the ability when they receive the ball from the centre backs or goalkeeper they immediately know where they are passing to, / their body already turns ready for the next action.

Where as Nico G doesn't do that naturally he gets caught or has to think before turning, Peps 1v1 coaching him in the summer was trying to get him to do it , but he still struggles. Its why since Rodri has been fit, Rodri has played. Rodri like Anderson and Tonali do it naturally they both are key to Newcastle and Forest build up.

That ability let's them evade the press and keep control. Kyle Walker said it in his interview on Sky Pep apparently hates players taking a touch and turning he wants them to turn with the ball so it's fluid, if you watch Nico G as 6 he takes a touch then turns sometimes into trouble especially when pressed.

If bernardo/Rodri leave and Tonali and anderson come in, our midfield options are what:

Nico G in the 6, Anderson/Tonali/reijnders and O Reilly for the 8's, Foden and cherki for the 10 (and or semenyo/marmoush if pep decides to be dumb)

Plus Rico and Kovacic as emergency cover/maybe sold on the fringes.

So imagine our starting 3 would be Nico G, anderson and Tonali on average. Maybe Nico G drops out for Foden with anderson dropping to the 6 if Foden rediscovers form.

That feels good, but it doesn't feel Rodri/Gundo/De bruyne good.

Reijnders has to go surely then?

One of him or Kovacic would have to go, but I think it would be Kova. We still need a squad, so one of them would be on the bench. If Foden gets good again reijnders is in trouble but that's akways been the case.

All guesswork though,my particular guess next season our midfield 3/4 will come from
Rodri, Gonzalez, Anderson,O'Reilly, Foden,Reijnders, Cherki.
It would only change in the unlikely event Rodri goes but can't see that.
