The Squad planning thread

my group of players to start the 2026/2027 season

Donnarumma 27
Trafford 23
Bettenili 34

Nunes 28
young right back -25
O'Reilly 21
Ait Nouri 25

Días 29
Khusanov 22
Gvardiol 24
Guehi 26
Reis 20

Nico Gonzalez 24
Anderson 23
Wharton 22
Tonali 26

Cherki 23
Foden 26

Semenyo 26
Doku 24
Savinho 22
Haaland 26

The Anderson + Wharton + Tonali project is expected to cost around £230 million.

The price of a right-back should be in the region of 30 to 50 million pounds sterling

expenses ≈ 280 million sterling

The players we should release:

Grealish 25M
Ake 15M
Akanji 15M
Kovacic 15M
Max alleyne 15M
Rico Lewis 20M
Reijnders 35M
Marmoush 60M
Rodri 60M
Bernardo 0
Stones 0
K Philips 0

≈260 million pounds sterling

Agree with most of this, except for three things:

1) I would let Trafford go (with a buy-back clause). He deserves to be a starting keeper. So we'd need to bring in a decent back-up (not sure who that would be)

2) Keep Reijnders, dont think we need Wharton. Would be good to get both Anderson and Tonali in the event Rodri and Bernardo both go (along with Kovacic). But there's a top player somewhere with Reijnders and there's a strong chance he'll come good and show his best in his second season. Between Anderson, Tonali, NOR, Nico G, Reijnders that's definitely enough competition for the number 6 and 8 roles

3) Sell Savinho. He shouldn't be anywhere the near team ahead of Semenyo, Doku, Cherki, Foden. If a world-class winger comes available, we should consider, but not necessary

1) Trafford will want to be playing for one of the better clubs, one competing for European competition. Those standard of clubs would not consider buy back clause.
Its either sell outright with no clauses or a loan to a top team.

2) Assuming it is Pep in charge next season, I can see Reijnders remaining at the club.

3) I can see us considering offers from Savinho, if a decent one comes in, or if the player himself wants to leave. You said that he shouldn't be near the team ahead of Semenyo, Doku, Foden and Cherki. What makes you think he is?

Livramento chat just won’t die down, had to be something in it

How many home grown guys who can play both sides and give a decade's service are there really?

Livramento feels like the most obvious signing going.

23 and has never really looked out of his depth in any competition, you'd imagine with our coaching and development that's a mainstay of our team in a problem position all sorted at once.

His injuries are horrible

Fair, but I'd imagine if we didn't think we could manage/alleviate that we wouldn't be looking at him at all.

We will be seeing John Stones leaving, a great player who has played a massive part in our success.

However keeping him fit has been a major issue for the club, not sure we will want to pay a huge transfer fee and also risk the problem of trying to keep him fit enough to play on a regular basis.

You might be correct, but I would hope that the club are convinced that there aren't better options before committing to Livramento.

Or our names are being used so he can get a better contract. I’d stay far away, we don’t need to waste the funds when Nunes is the best. We’d be better suited for a younger player that will play the odd game here and there.

I’m one of those who thinks savinho needs to go but I’m afraid he’s ahead of foden right now who seems to have the football equivalent of dartitis, the poor lads confidence is shot.

Too much noise around Tonali and Anderson I really do think we want both, Tolmie even saying in the other thread that we do.

From Newcastle side they like Bah , Trafford, Rico Lewis and Marmoush so the deal for Tonali might be cash plus player meaning Anderson and Tonali would be do able.

Seems like Pep is friendly with Tonali and his family as well

That’s excluding Phillips, Grealish as well mate. I know he’s a blue but Foden may benefit from even a loan move away?
Not really, add up the minutes Kovacic,Lewis, Phillips,Grealish have in our midfield. Not enough for somebody like Tonali. That’s not even allowing for the added minutes O’Reilly is starting to get in the middle. Unless somebody like Rodri leaves as well replacing Bernardo is enough still leaves.
Rodri, Gonzalez, O’Reilly, Anderson?, Reijnders, Foden, Cherki,7 for 3 positions.Adding another would be far too many.
Plus according to the Newcastle fans up here I talk too they think he really wants Juventus.

Also a lot of noise around Tonali to United, which I’m not worried about, but shows there’s just talk of him leaving Newcastle. After all they have had a pretty underwhelming season sitting around 11th and PSR always an issue.

I do think the Livramento talk is either them hoping to get 100m for him/him getting a big contract. That said you’d think they would have re signed him with our interest previously so maybe just trying to cash in. Think Tolm said on twitter we are actively scouting Kayode and haven’t spoken to anyone regarding Livramento in a long time.
