The Squad planning thread

No team will ever be the level that we were but fucking hell we’ve wasted some serious cash over the last two years!

Completely agree. There's been some hits but there are also some absolute duds in there.

I want us to go back to signing players of super technical high level. I don't want guys who can run up and down the pitch but can't trap a football.

We need some players who make an impact when we haven’t got the ball. That goal was far too easy and can’t remember last time one of our players actual tackles someone. It’s up the there with shit corners and inability to take throw ins. Unbelievable that we managed to win two trophy’s this year.we also need some leaders on the pitch. Our so called stars aren’t leading from the front whereas we’ve been used to a teamful of leaders

We haven’t had a world class midfield since the end of the 24 season. That absolutely has to be the main target. Elliot Anderson and Fabian Ruiz would do nicely.

Our midfield has completely got away from us in past 2/3 years, major surgery somehow still needed

Who knew that not going for the best available players for our system and consistently missing on our 2nd choice targets because they were too expensive would eventually blow up in our faces?

About a 50% success rate with players brought it so far under the new dof?

Reijnders and Marmoush have been stinkers.
Marmoush was Txiki. Reijnders ain’t Viana’s fault imo. All the underlying stats were there for him to be a smash hit but he just couldn’t translate physically.

Marca going big on this tonight. Fucking hell

Rodri, crazy to join: Pep Guardiola's departure, barring a radical last-minute twist, opens a door that for years remained completely closed to Madrid

Everyone leaving now apparently

We have bloated squad

Filled with many average overpaid players

Thanks for whoever was responsible for that

We need to start recruiting elite top level players again that improves us instantly instead of throwing loads of money on young players who might or might not become great 2-3 years from now or expensive depth that had 6 good months in low pressure environments.

The choice for a larger squad was presumably to help us successfully compete consistently across multiple fronts, something we had failed to do. The alternative would have been to continue to rely on a smaller squad that peaks spectacularly but then descends equally so. The larger squad model has to be given at least another season, but if it proves too costly, disruptive, or underperforms, then tough decisions will need to be made.

probably one if little positive good things after Pep leaves - squad size

i'd be more than happy if we increase the squad size, to medium. not like balloned squad like Chelsea, i think that was one of Marescas biggest challenges there

1. Chelsea squad was stacked with average talented players
2. Also injuries did not help, tho i don't know if those injuries were due Maresca's training or Chelsea injury curse

also Rodri might get a breather, lol
