The Squad planning thread

Big summer for Viana this.

The club has spent around 450m in the last 18 months (even if there is some debate if last years January window was on him or Txiki, I would assume all of the transfers were done with input from Vianas and not against his will).
It's hard to argue the club has seen an improvement anywhere close to what you could expect from that kind of investment.

65m on Marmoush
52m on Nico
32m on Reis
13m on Nypan
2m on Bettinelli
27m on Trafford
32m on Ait-Nori
48m on Reijnders
=
271 million spent in around 12 months on players who are, at best, fringe players in our squad.
This summer its time to start delivering players who will make a real difference or its time to start asking some serious questions.
Marmoush and Nico aren’t his signings. Nypan is for CFG, Bettinelli was to fulfil the HG quota & Reis is for the future. So of the three signings for the here and now (in bold) only one has underperformed when called upon and even then he’s still a relatively good player (Reijnders).

No because that isn’t and never will be a first 11, it’s a pointless exercise, can’t be arsed myself but what if you did the same with the treble squad.
We had Sergio Gomez, Perrone, KP, Rico Lewis and at some point Wilson-Esbrand in our squad in the treble season. It’s undeniable the quality has dropped off but to pretend the squad hasn’t had mediocre players before is a stretch.

So we've spent 2 years "in transition" and now have the prospect of... Silva, stones, Trafford, Gonzalez, Ake, marmoush, reijnders, Lewis, kovacic.... All leaving. Big question marks about Rodri, his fitness and his contract. Then you have Savinho who is, and I make no apology for this, absolutely fucking shite. Plus a new manager coming in. And a World Cup on the middle of it hampering preparation.

Not the ideal scenario tbh. Last night's events may clouding my judgement but it's hard not to worry about next season already
Last season wasn’t a transition season. We were just bad. There was no attempt to move on the old guard the summer before last season. There was not even a mention of transition. It’s not until we crashed and burned did Txiki & co realise their error.

Buying a LB seems crazy given 3 players can technically play there for us and selling any of them seems a poor decision, Maresca should like all 3.

and all 3 can do exactly what needed - invert, push forward, expand the width if need

According to
@1908nl
(an excellent source specific to Feyenoord club and Dutch football in general): Bayern Munich is a candidate to sign Jairo Ried, but right now City is closer to signing him.. The asking price is 35 million pounds sterling (approximately 40 million euros

As well as Bernardo ☑️
  1. Donnarumma
  2. Trafford
  3. Bettinelli
  4. Lewis
  5. Nunes
  6. Dias
  7. Gvardiol
  8. Guehi
  9. Khusanov
  10. Ake
  11. NOR
  12. RAN
  13. Rodri
  14. Nico G
  15. Reijnders
  16. Kovacic
  17. Foden
  18. Cherki
  19. Semenyo
  20. Doku
  21. Savinho
  22. Marmoush
  23. Haaland

So we've got our full 8 HG quota at present, with 2 free non-HG spots.

Semenyo and Guehi joining have helped out a lot in this respect

Obviously Anderson is HG if Ake, Lewis or Trafford go from our quota. Obviously doesn’t include Grealish/Phillips on loan

Foden, NOR, Lewis and Trafford count as 4 club trained for champions league

we also had 5 centre backs and the 5th was Laporte. Champions League final we had Palmer, Foden, Alvarez, Laporte, Walker, Mahrez on the bench. Plus Philips who was a £50m signing.

We could do with getting back to the core 16/17 players of top quality.

Honestly I think he got all three of those under market value.

Reijnders with a season to settle playing week in week out will end up being a very big player for us I think.

Juventus interesed in Reijnders

' A quality midfielder/attacking midfielder will be a priority in any case. "We're missing a player who's good in tight spaces and tight areas," Spalletti repeatedly reiterated at press conferences. With the Portuguese player gone, Juventus circles have focused on two players familiar with the Italian league: Tijjani Reijnders and Brahim Diaz, both former AC Milan players. The Dutchman, Bernardo Silva's teammate at Manchester City this season, has played less than expected under Pep Guardiola.'

I'd be trying for Rogers before his valuation inevitably rockets after the world cup.

And on Enzo; he'd be class in a stable team.
I like him but he’s too inconsistent for me very hot and cold player. Since Jan he’s can have a great game then 3 terrible games in a row score or assist twice then go back being meh. Don’t think he’s our level tho. But then again who knew Vitinha from Wolves would be the player he is now

Enzo has crazy numbers for a midfielder but I don’t like racists, keep him far away from my club.
In July 2024, Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández faced severe backlash after broadcasting a live video on Instagram featuring Argentina's national team singing a discriminatory and racist chant about the France national team. The offensive song targeted French players of African heritage. [1, 2, 3]
The incident caused significant fallout, including condemnation from his own Chelsea teammates. Here is a breakdown of what happened and the resulting consequences: [1]

The Incident & Fallout
  • The Video: Following Argentina's 2024 Copa América victory, Fernández live-streamed team bus celebrations where players sang a chant originating from the 2022 World Cup. The lyrics mocked the African origins of several French players.
  • Team Backlash: Chelsea teammate and France international Wesley Fofana publicly condemned the video, calling it "uninhibited racism". Several other French players at Chelsea subsequently unfollowed Fernández on social media.
  • Official Complaints: The French Football Federation (FFF) condemned the remarks as racist and discriminatory, filing a formal complaint to FIFA. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Resolution & Club Action
  • Apology: Fernández issued a public apology, cut his post-tournament holiday short, and personally apologized to his Chelsea teammates in the United States.
  • Club Stance: Chelsea initiated internal disciplinary procedures but closed their investigation after the player expressed deep regret and pledged to make a significant donation to an anti-discrimination charity, which the club matched.
  • Reconciliation: The Chelsea squad reportedly accepted the apology, allowing the team to move past the incident.

At the right price, I’d go for Enzo Fernández without thinking twice. He can play as a CDM, CM, and even as a CAM when needed. He has a high work rate, excellent passing, an eye for goal, fights for every ball, wins possession back, and would add some much-needed aggression to our midfield. Him and Anderson would strengthen our midfield massively for years to come.

The only question is his character and attitude. I don’t really know him to judge.

feels like Tevez 2.0 - talented as fuck but man with a short fuse

i don't really know how we could accommodate Anderson AND Fernandes, they seem similar to me

i think if Rodri leaves and we sign Anderson, i think better option would be Tchouameni

yes, he would not be best controller, but he should do wonders with Anderson and Cherki further up the pitch
