The Squad planning thread

Nothing to do with us but that ExWHU account who is the best for info for West Ham has put out that West Ham actually do want 85 million for Fernandes and won’t start negotiations for under that fee.

The Market is insane this summer

It's better looking to Europe for players. Much better VFM.

I’m surprised with the price we got Cherki and Khusanov why we haven’t raided the French league for talent. For the price of Anderson you could probably get two to three players in that league with high potential and talent.

Still a farmers' league for some on here, even when the Premier League has become more agricultural in recent seasons.

Sometimes the French club is a victim of its circumstances (Cherki) and sometimes the early gamble on rawness pays off (Khusanov). We also have Bah in Ligue 1 and I still think we'll sign Akliouche after the World Cup and once Savinho departs.

We don't have unlimited foreign spots, however. A much better plan might be to loan some academy players to Troyes next season. They might develop better in Ligue 1 rather than sending them down the divisions just to get the stuffing kicked out of them.

Lamine Camara the guy that Newcastle are looking at to replace Tonali seems an incredible talent midfielder and Monaco are asking for 50 million euros. I agree with Akilouche he looks a talent.

Also that young lad from Lille looks a top talent, Bouaddi

Many of the clubs in Ligue 1 are struggling financially (TV rights/lack of European progress), so the price asked for players should be taken with a fistful of salt. I expect we'll sign Akliouche for considerably less than his value. He and other players might not immediately acclimate to the English game (we've only seen Cherki at 60-75% so far), but the talent pool is far ahead of what is being produced in England, which should raise questions about development.

These clips don’t really tell you much beyond what you can see with your own eyes. They very rarely show you what the player is like when they don’t have the ball, how disciplined they are in holding shape, how clever they are at pressing, and how willing they are to work off the ball to support teammates.

I’ve seen enough of him to know he could become extremely good, but if taken to England he’ll need time to adjust. He’s more introverted than Cherki, but Deschamps must recognise there is something special there, or he wouldn’t have included him in his World Cup squad.

He looks good but 2 big things jumped out to me

1.) also most of his best moments are from a inside centra position, nothing wrong with that but kinda already have that profile in Cherki/Phil.... what we need with Savinho going is a player who'll keep the width

2.) A lot of those clips are where hes got space to run and defenders running back to goal, not a lot of evidence of him against the low block we'd expect to face most weeks

The caveat to the above, particularly point 1, that a "traditional winger" that hugs the byline is a bit of an anomaly these days, most wingers are inside forwards

Heard hes available for around £45mil, so a relatively well priced play in these markets

Think he comes as a squad player though

He should come in to hold the Savinho spot for a season, which also buys time for our academy wingers to develop. However, once he strengthens and fills out, there is no reason why he cannot play more in the middle as well. Foden has yet to prove he can thrive there consistently, and neither Cherki nor he can play every game. Doku is also looking more of a threat from the inside. We cannot run the risk of becoming as one-dimensional as we were in 24-25, with barely any central creativity when de Bruyne was out.

This guy is not even better than Savinho
