The state of the gardens - another police incident

It's a shame, but they may as well just fuck the gardens off now and build an office block on it

Or flats.......

What they should do but unfortunately cant happen in this namby pamby world is just arrest all these drug dealers and give them banning orders from coming into Piccadilly. Every time they breach it double the sentence.

Part of the problem is Richard Leese.

He's always on the design commitees for these ugly, public projects whether that's Piccadilly Gardens, the new Factory building or anything else in Manchester.

The design of the place is obviously only a small factor but I can't help but think it wouldn't be as bad as this if it looked less of a shithole.

I’m not saying something doesn’t need to be done, but in big cities something needs to be done, it’s not even made the NW news at lunch, not sure what that says mind :-(

It’s a lot worse when you have to walk through it every day to get to work.

Society is breaking down and there’s no greater example than the ‘the gardens’.

What tourists must think I don’t wish to know.

work across the road from it.

It's getting worse, big groups of lads dealing. always bound to happen

Then you have the druggies/alchis loitering around the children area.

be quite happy for the place to be flattened and they build something on there.

Don’t forget the blatant smell of cannabis you get walking through. Unfortunately you see children having to walk through it as well.

Appalling.

What is the short term solution?

cameras, police, lighting, no sitting?

it’s a catch 22 as it’s the central communal area of the city. In the heat of the summer and Christmas markets it’s quite nice. But other side of that quite grey, dull and very unappealing.

The random coffee shop, those trees that dealers hang under, surrounded by 4 corners of fast food so rats everywhere plus dodging trams as they snake through it.

as other side socially drugs, crime and homeliness are on the raise but what can be done to keep that out of these spaces?

Actually use the police for what they were originally designed to do and patrol the area. They should be catching criminals and there’s loads of them in this area. It’s like a fisherman refusing to fish in a lake that’s swarming with fish.

They should have one more go at turning it into actual gardens and then police it.

I was say it’s soo many small fish that the police know them and prob don’t bother because of the paper work and red tape.

they could of been a bit of a meet up that went wrong or something smaller. Who knows.

the very worrying thing is they are armed and all of us pass through this part of the ground for the matches. 216 bus for Aston leaves from just there?
