The strangeness at Barca - worst ever transfer transaction?

How could it be about race when they still have Abidal, Toure and Keita playing for them?

Doesn't make any sense.

True, although possibly what they're saying is that Ibra is worth so much more than Eto'o based upon Ibra being white and Eto'o black. I still don't buy into that but it's a different argument than simply looking at the black players at Barca.

I read on a Barca forum that the black players are all on the lowest pay-bracket (except Eto'o) but that's probably down to them being not quite as good as their team-mates. It's weird how Yaya Toure only got a one year extension though. They were also saying all the Catalan's (Valdes, Xavi, Puyol) etc all have the best deals. Valdes has just signed a big offer to stay until 2014 i think.

Not sure what to make of the race thing though. It's evident that there is a problem with it in Spain but can't imagine it running wild at club level with teams own players. Be like keying your own car really.

I just think they have a need for player turn-over. They got rid of Fat Ronaldo when he was prime

Obviously Barca have signed a world class star, but they've been mugs in letting Eto'o go while they're at it. On the other hand, I don't think Inter would have sold for 60m, but Eto'o and 40m is a more reasonable selling tool. Ibra will provide world class football for at least 5 more years, he's 2 years younger than Eto'o but his game isn't dependant on pace like Eto'o's is. While Ibra may lose his pace in 3 years time, his talent won't deteriorate and in a way age could help him progress, more maturity and experience, clinical finishing and positioning will improve and has improved drastically over the last two years alone, so the signs are that Ibrahimovic is a striker on the up, if that is even possible. Eto'o however, will realistically be in decline and in 2 years time I expect Balotelli to be the better striker of the two tbh, so really Eto'o is a stop gap until Balotelli can step into his shoes, even though personally I'd have Balotelli in the starting line up anyway.

People can say what they like about Ibra but I've watched the guy for years now and not just in the CL, he's an incredible player, the most talented striker I've seen since Henry. A few years ago his finishing wasn't that of a top 3 striker in the world, he'd try to be too extravagant and lacked movement into the box, these days his finishing really is that of a top 3 striker, it's as clinical as anybody on the circuit these days and I can promise you that when all you La Liga merchants start watching him in La Liga you'll be furiously masterbating over him and I'll be the one laughing at your naivity in doubting him. Trust me, Ibrahimovic is a lot more than some skills and a fancy flick here and there, he's one of the most powerful CF's in world football, one of the best finishers, holds the ball up better than any striker, his creatvity is equal to the likes of a top playmaker, and his first touch is to die for. I am right about this, he is clearly one of the best strikers in the world to me, and it's only a matter of time before you're all hopping on the bandwagon.

Cant believe how people dont rate Ibrahimovic!! way way better than Eto'o much more of an alround striker. So skillful and so strong and good in the air. Potentially he is the perfect striker!! In the Barca team Ibra is going to be frighteningly good!!

guys.. just stop saying that ibra is overrated... look at him in the last two seasons with inter! it seems that he single handedly bring serie a for inter, bcos there are no player who can distribute the ball brilliantly like iniesta and xavi, and yet he still scores.. I'm a barca fan, and obviously city fan too.. but let's face it.. they are getting better with ibra..

A lot of people on here don't rate Ibra because they don't watch him play. They'll see him in 2 games per season in the CL and he'll be starved of any service all night because Inter are CL failures, and they'll pass judgement on Ibra. Lets get this straight, Ibra is 10 times better than Adebayor, and the whole forum is currently shooting their load over Ade...

What are the Swede's performances like against the top clubs in Italy?

How does he perform against the top clubs in Europe? i.e. the English and Spanish clubs

I take it he would score 10 times as many goals as Adebayor then? Otherwise that statement holds no ground.

They've basically paid about £70 million if you take into consideration what Eto'o is worth and the wages of Helb.

Eto'o is better than Ibra, they've been had!

To be fair, Zlatan has been the best player in the Italian league for the past few seasons, and that includes Kaka. If Ronaldo and Kaka are worth insane money so is Zlatan imo. And they're only giving Eto'o away because they've lost patience with him, and want to get rid of his big wages.

well, another reason he is a good signing is because, he has the ajax connection.. barca had the same philosophy as ajax.. and if you notice, their other acquisition this summer, maxwell is also a former ajax player...

The Minger's Football Spy. are implying that it's about race. Can't really see it, though.

The Eto/Ibram deal defies all logic but what is the the most insane transfer ever?

I think so. it will probably go down as one of the worst bits of transfer business ever. Lets se what happens but Eto is a much better player that Ibra IMO and this will be proved next season. He will score more goals and contribute more just wait and see.

Same sort of age, Eto is the better player + £40 million + hleb I mean its just mental. Morinho must be laughing his tits off.

Barca got gang raped on that deal no doubt about it.

If you look at it from barca's point of view it's not as ridiculous as it first seems. Eto'o is worthless to barca he's only eating up wages and would of cost them this 13mill in loyalty bonus should he had seen out his contract (If this is true). So getting rid of him now is saving on that loyalty bonus as well as wages and will also have taken a few million off what they are paying for ibrahimovich depending on what inter value eto'o at.

This season it's costing them 40mill and eto'o. For arguements sake lets say inter value eto'o at 20 mill. thats 60 mill combined fee for ibrahimovich. If they were to buy him next year, they'd have to pay the 60 mill sum and still lose eto'o for nothing and even have to pay him the 13 mill loyalty bonus. So including eto'o in the deal and buying him this season is saving barca around 30 mill.

Pretty clever on Barca's part if you look at it that way.
