There appears to be a battle between clubs on the basis who can release the most 'scouse' statement to score some points on social media. Nonsense, like "Our club was built on the shoulders of our fans", "Our very existence is to serve our community" etc.. Enough to make you want to throw-up.

Not that it is any much surprise, but Bayern released their official statement.

Good on them! I do not like Bayern, but they've got my respect over this big time. Bayern are literally one of the elite European clubs. As big as either of the NW Redshirts from this country and bigger than City Cheslea Arsenal and Spurs. A European Super League is a misnomer if they aren't in it.

Well done Bayern for doing something my club should have done and for making a mockery of this breakaway.

I live in the states... they are the most boring leagues in all of sport, even baseball is more competitive albeit not my thing. In the Nfl and NBA the top players cry and whine and move every few years to the top bidder. Soon you have juggernauts and ultimately it's the same 4 clubs recycled as champs. Let's not even get started on the playoff system especially in NFL where you literally only need to outcompete 3 other teams in your division to be guaranteed playoff contention so the team who does just enough to qualify then gets hot for a few weeks is declared champion... There is no relegation and very little of the bottom ever beating the top.
The difference is it has always been like that has the NFL format changed since the 1980 s?

It's not far off, half of the games end up meaning nothing especially in NBA. In the NFL fans start cheering against their teams to ensure the best draft picks.
I shouldn't be getting sucked into this but my take:

There are pros and cons to the "American" system (parity between teams being chief among them so I'm not sure what the OP is on about there, championships are spread far more evenly). There are pros and cons to the "European" system.

However they are fundamentally different and incompatible. It's comparing apples and oranges. Relegation would not work in America (interestingly enough fan groups of certain leagues want one) because the leagues are closed. A salary cap and salary floor would not work because there are hundreds of teams in the pyramid with vastly different spending power.

The Super League replaces some of the best parts of the European system with some of the worst parts American system. And it's all for money. That's why this is so fucked.

Man City players are showing their first clear signs of opposition to the European Super League, as the likes of Aymeric Laporte, Benjamin Mendy, Raheem Sterling, and Riyad Mahrez retweet a club post highlighting a quote from Pep Guardiola directed towards the ESL
