@Ric or mods, seeing as for now City are an English club. Can we change the title to “City ARE a founding member” rather than the god awful Americanism “City is a founding member”
Sorry SWP's back, but even a bit pissed at 03:00 the use of 'is' is actually correct.

City is a singular term, therefore 'is' is the correct way to refer to us. For example 'John is a twat' means that this John is a twat in the same way that City is a founding member means that City is a founding member.

Fuck me I need to go to bed
Yeah, I think City the team would be a plural as it's a grouping of people, but City the club would count as a singular as it's more of an entity in its own right. Willing to be corrected here.

Gary Neville with a great 18minute rant, people can point to ulterior motives but to me he's speaking as a fan and I can't disagree with any of it, he's fucking fuming.

I'm the same now, I'm getting more and more angrier with it.

The more I hear about this, the worse it sounds. Even the short term repercussions are likely to be catastrophic. Probably going to get kicked out of the CL now. And have points deducted in this year's PL.

Alas, I fear you’re right
So what's telling is who's on the board of this:

Perez (Real Madrid)
Agnelli (Juventus)
Glazer (United)
Kroenke (Arsenal)
Henry (Liverpool)

So we know that these are the 5 clubs that instigated all of this. Every other club (such as City) is likely an invitee.

And when you break it down, you have Perez who's a megalomaniac, Agnelli the lover of the US system, and the 3 US run English powerhouses. I wouldn't pin it on the Americans as this is ultimately a Perez movement, but it's no surprise that they're the movers and shakers in all of this.

Its all going to be kicking off soon but please spread the word

THIS ALL ABOUT SCUM, DIPPERS AND TARQUINS
Just to be clear for anybody of any club
THIS IS ALL ABOUT SCUM, DIPPERS AND TARQUINS
Sorry, but come on! We are helping to facilitate the whole thing. Shouldn't have gone anywhere near it. I don't care what happens to UEFA but in some ways, their past behaviour is a bit of a moot point when it comes to what's actually happening here.

No, it’s used in American English but not in the U.K. for sports teams and you’ll notice the mods have already made the change.

“Manchester City” is a plural noun, like the ‘All Blacks’. No one outside of the US would say “The All Blacks is playing well”, nor should they use “Manchester City is playing well”, for both “are playing well” would be used.

Absolutely spot on, Prezlke. They've slowly built a world in which the only things that matter are the lifestyles of millionaires and billionaires.
I have a question?

Has anyone considered how this is REALLY happening because COVID is revealing how whilst FFP got City under financial control prior to COVID IT FAILED to put under control the older "cartel" clubs that could operate with heavy debts, no need for success, riding the coat tails of past success (or were left in the dust: See Serie A for mismanagement and other factors) and therefore had less pressure to mange their clubs better, leading to spending ridiculous amounts of money and were poorly managed for many years that was already appearing JUST before COVID??

I won't deny City, Chelsea and PSG spending was a factor, but that was because you had to spend to get a foot in the door to compete really as you are competing against Goliath clubs with mega global fan bases, young players all wanting to play for them, etc.

It's little wonder this is coming from Real Madrid because they are one of the prime culprits as are almost all who are joining.

We are culpable, of course, and this is neoliberal capitalism revealing its core to us all right in plain daylight.

Also...

This is also why the chest thumping about City and PSG as the evil ones to focus on ignoring other signs that hoards of fans and journalists have focused on I’ve been arguing has been short sided.

I've argued this on Twitter with some well known critics (Miguel Delaney and Barnay Ronay before) when I contented what was happening with City and UEFA/"the cartel"/PSG not getting hit for FFP the 2nd time around...

In all these instances and what you saw other big clubs and their apologists were doing all to maintain power/wealth, or find ways to enhance it which are all really just sad examples of neoliberal capitalism that you could see in ALL of these big clubs nature, yet this was framed as "whataboutary" whilst some acted like clubs they support were holier than thou, and others (journos inlcluded) turned a fairly blind eye to this until now.

Well. The chickens are coming home to roost now.

You won’t hear any U.K. broadcast or read any U.K. paper make use of the singular when referring to a football club, but you will in America.

“Is Manchester City going to beat PSG?” - yuck.

Friend of mine with no interest in footy but a huge fan of many American sports reminded me of what happened in the 90s when Greg Norman tried to start his own World Golf Tour with 8 tourneys, winner share double that of what players could earn on the PGA and a broadcast contract with Fox. PGA plainly said any player who leaves won’t be welcome back on the PGA Tour, period. And Norman folded up his tent and went home, although a few years later the World Golf Championships were created (which I, as a huge golf fan, have never really liked, except for the Match Play). So I’d guess the World Cup threat PLUS a ban on any player who leaves from ever returning to a domestic league in Europe in any capacity whatsoever — player, coach, broadcaster for a league-contracted source, owner, etc. — might have some punch (though older players could go to Asia or the Americas I guess).

That’s the best remedy I can think of here, though it would require an awful lot of solidarity among the leagues.
