The thread in which Bluemooners reveal tenuous links to famous people.

When I worked in Devon, I had to go to a posh 'drinks do' one evening. I got talking to a bloke who looked as bored as me.
'What do you do for a living?' says I.
'I write novels' he said.
'Oh, anything I might have read?' says I trying to be interested.
'Doubt it' he says.
'Try me, what's your name?'
'Iain Blair'
'No' says I, 'don't believe that rings a bell'.
'Well , I write romantic fiction, so I write under the name Emma Blair'
When I mentioned that to the women I knew, quite a few had read his books.
He's dead now.

Working for an investment management company whose operational base was up here but the head office was down in London. Went down to the head office, went out for a coffee with my business project sponsor, got a sandwich to eat then back to the office where he found me a spare desk. Chap sat opposite came back with his sandwich and we had a pleasant chat. Turned out he was Winston Churchill’s great grandson, Randolph Churchill.

That completed my link to the four main wartime leaders:
  • One of my schoolteachers was the man who guarded Rudolf Hess on his first night in Scotland and Hess obviously knew Hitler.
  • My old neighbour’s uncle had been a guard at Yalta and had to admit Stalin every morning. By the final day they’d have a little chat via the interpreter.
  • I knew one of JFK’s Secret Service Detail. Kennedy’s father was ambassador to the UK during the war and therefore knew Roosevelt.
I reckon that qualifies as “tenuous”.

Only going to post on this thread when I meet someone famous contemporaneously, albeit fleetingly and/or tenuously.

Met Jeremy Kyle yesterday at Cheltenham. Introduced through a friend of a very dear friend. He seems a little sinister, if I’m being entirely honest. Polite enough, but no real warmth or obvious charm. Quite slight. Definitely had significant work done imo.

Whole encounter lasted fifty seconds, tops

I saw him in Smoak in Manchester, having a candle-lit meal with his little coffee boy Graham, just them two. Definitely a homosexual tension between them, wouldn't be surprised if the new series of Jeremy Kyle is focused on them...'I sucked off Graham in restaurant toilets'.
