The Titanic

A submersible operated with a game console controller, the people that got into that death trap must have had more money than sense.

I actually think this point is a bit overblown. As somebody pointed out earlier, people use customisable games console controllers for all kinds of applications.

They have been designed with ergonomics in mind and continuously improved for over 30 years to be easy to use. Loads of unmanned vehicles military and civilian use game controllers, they are just the most intuitive way to control something.

I never said it wouldn't help, simply arguing it's not needed as long as they are banging at timed intervals, which they are.

There is no other life down there
You said it "isnt required" I said I cant be arsed... but

A morse code message indicating if they';re on the surface or the bottom wouldnt help? Or that they have power, or stuck on part of the wreck... None of that would "be required"?

Can I just say, as someone who has tried potholing you're fucking mental. :-)

Dont think it helped that the first time I went down one it was a Grade 4 and it put me off for life.
Watch The Last Descent. Guy who got stuck in Nutty Putty Cave.

Now that was a horrific way to go.

Banging the same beat at the same intervals tells those searching that they are in trouble and will give them a location to search.

With the time constraints, the material state of the sub is not critical

As a reformed caver/potholer, you'll never understand that sense of exploration unless you've ever been into it yourself. Given affordable chance would I like to see the world's most famous ship wreck? Absolutely.
I'd pass on the titanic wreck tbh, long flights are bad enough for me, couldn't stick being in a sub for days. If I ever got the chance to replicate the edge of space jump though I'd never be able to turn it down.

Rather watch all of this on Youtube, quite frankly. Even bunjee jumping does not in the least appeal.
Was told by someone I know who did a sky dive that it was the most incredible rush. He said — this is worrying — that it was so good that he didn't want to pull the ripcord. I just might do that if someone offered to pay. But I'm almost certainly too old now.

Common enough impulse, been there myself. Helps to remember that there's no more skydiving if you don't pull the cord.
