The Titanic

I did not see a thread about this event. It's a story I've been following. Five (I believe) rich people paid 250K USD to go on a private submersible tour to the Titanic on Sunday. The launch ship has lost contact with it and it hasn't returned. It is estimated to run out of oxygen Thursday morning EST.

The Canadian and U.S. Coast Guard are saying it's still a search and rescue mission. I think it's now a recovery mission but they are being kind to the families of those aboard.

Many articles I've read have said the vehicle was essentially a death trap. The owner eschewed hiring retired navy submariners because they weren't "inspiring." He'd rather hire a "smart"25 year old to pilot the craft.

Death by adventure tourism is my verdict. People die horrific deaths every day I'll preserve my sympathies for those who don't pay £250k for a bit of deep sea rubbernecking.

It’s the price paid for getting into history.

If you want to be a true adventurer you have to die on your last expedition or at least lose some fingers.

Sad for the people involved and the families but there's actually some poetic justice about rich people dying from cost cutting and regulation skirting rather than the usual ordinary poor folk.
