The Titanic

I don’t think they all did, I can’t imagine the father putting his boy at risk if he thought it was unsafe.
He will have been reassured it was a safe venture and as the CEO was on the trip, why would he doubt him.
That is a very good point.
Unfortunately the CEO was a reckless chancer with the gift of the gab and quite possibly deluded bordering on insane.

Not sure why ourselves and the US are wasting public money and military resources on trying to find the bits now there is clearly no one to rescue. Rip etc, but we don't really need an accident investigation to close this case and if rich folk want to sue each other they can fund the search for evidence themselves.

How many migrant boats have to sink to get the same kind of coverage as a bunch of millionaires literally dying to see a boat that wasn't much of a boat?
Sad isn't it mate..but I guess it's the world we live in.
Also loads of people shot in America every week and nobody bats an eyelid....except on that Bluemoon fred.

Wow so there is absolutely zero chance any human remains will be recovered!

When the sub imploded, the pressure caused the air to heat up hotter than the sun, turning the bodies to gel!

Only saving grace is it took 13 milliseconds to happen, which is quicker than the human body can see or feel anything so they really wouldn't have had a clue!

If they sink near the Titanic they might get coverage.

Seriously though, you can have stories at different levels rather than just a list of news reports ranging down from the most depressing to the “And, finally” section. The only fact that connects these two things are that people have decided to enter a hostile environment in unsuitable crafts and we mostly know the reasons why people attempt to cross the Mediterranean or Channel in a dinghy but maybe not why people want to gawp at some rusty metal, albeit at a piece of history we all find fascinating.

I hate when people correlate stories in this way (not particularly picking on you, madloaf) as though we’re being moderated as to what we can and can’t be interested in.

So you're saying the difference with Billionaires being killed v 500 Pakistanis drowning is because One was near the Titanic?

That’s not really true though is it.
Sky and the bbc were running 24 hour coverage on the migrant crisis two or three years ago.
The coverage on this, like the Chilean miners and the Thai football team is based on a sense of hope that they may survive.

You hear about the migrant boat that sank yesterday near the canaries? 30 feared dead? Can't find it anywhere on the home page of the bbc. But i still see titan sub nonsense.

Also, Greece migrant boat news below Arctic monkeys review. If you don't think it's true, fair enough.

Last week, more 500 people fleeing war and famine drowned when their vessel capsized off the coast of Greece. I hardly saw it mentioned. This week, in just two days, I counted 18 headline stories in just one paper about the submarine incident. Both are tragedies, but we value some lives differently than others, clearly.

Just under 500 people die every day in Britain from cardiovascular disease. With a proper drive on health and investment in services and education, many of these deaths are preventable. Nobody is particularly arsed about that though.

Yet people are more bothered about a few hundred people dying on boats in the Med near Greece or Canary Islands or a handful of people dying in a dangerous life threatening trip in a stupid unsafe submarine machine to try and see murky unclear glimpses of the Titanic in the pitch-dark deep ocean.

They’re all just different stories. It’s more that the Titanic is involved with it being such a famous thing.

Not sure it even made the front page. Let's not kid ourselves no one gives a fuck about 300 Pakistanis and 200+ other nationalities so why would the written press keep running with the story. In reality some folk do give a fuck and it's depressing that it gets a mere mention. A cruise ship with 500 yanks that sinks with everyone on board drowning would be headline news for Two weeks every minute of the day.
Why are Pakistani’s migrants? They’re not fleeing war or famine, it’s for economic reasons and entering the country for that is illegal. They’re making it difficult for genuine asylum seekers to get help. Same goes for other migrants not fleeing famine or war, it’s no coincidence they bypass most countries in Europe to get to the soft touch UK, the country is goi g trough a cost of living crisis, this hardly helps.

I suppose the sad truth is that boat loads of migrants drowning is a virtually daily occurrence so less 'interesting' than a handful of billionaires snuffing it near the Titanic.

Everything is mapped out when something like this happened , mapping out of the sea bed is the done thing

I understand that everyone's favourite hero, the great Ross Kemp, has said that he nearly went on Titan.

I say nearly... Apparently, his production company had been thinking about doing a programme about Ross going to see the Titanic and were looking at booking him a trip in Titan.

Bandwagon jumper extraordinaire.

Not at all - what is weird, is your conclusion that such was the case. I merely used them as examples of people who polarise opinion. I didn't say or imply I hated or indeed admired any of them. Maybe you should not rush to judgement or jump to conclusions - that way you'll minimise the risk of making yourself look foolish. If it's an honest mistake, I'll accept your admission/apology.

Yes, it'll all be wrapped up in a week or so apparently with as many bits of the sub recovered as possible for investigation. I suppose those on board should be grateful they were not poor and didn't burn to death in Grenfell tower - they'd be waiting much longer for answers.

Only just read/watched that they apparently were aware of an issue developing as they tried to ascend. James Cameron being an enthusiast and part of this community made some calls and got the following info...

They were at about 3.5k feet and had dropped their weights and were attempting to ascend, then they lost comms and tracking, they had a transponder. Further calls got him the info an explosion had been heard consistent with what the navy would expect with a catastrophic failure of the pressure hull.

From that first bit of info he knew they were gone. So it sadly was not instant. A fault developed and they tried to ascend. It can't have been to long before the fault became catastrophic though, that bit would be instant.

I should note some people in the comments said Cameron did not say about weights being dropped. Has anyone watched Camerons full comments on this able to confirm what was actually said?

Realistically everyone else in this small community operates to a very high standard seemingly. No slap dash company could even begin to think of starting up a budget option. So there is not much point making laws on it now. Maybe they could expand some already in place laws or something?

I feel bad for the poor people who knew this was going to happen but were silenced with potential or actual legal threats to sue. They were literally silenced and could see this going to happen.
