Look guys, we're on a City forum so you're obviously going to see things in a certain way. Although I really have to draw the line at Gareth Barry! Next someone's going to say Aguero was better than Thierry Henry!

Regardless, the main gist of what I'm trying to say is that the competition in the PL has gotten much stronger. City last season are better than City in 2012. And to win the title is more difficult - you had City win 11 in a row last season so you can say bottle all you want but does than not denigrate City's achievement of banging out all those wins in a row? Particularly when the supposed weaker teams in the PL are much stronger than ever before
For what it’s worth I’d not say you bottled it

I see Barry vs Partey as the match up given their roles in those sides.

Anyway this took a path I wasn't intending and wasn't the point I was trying to make in the 1st place - also what's important is how the managers can get the most out of players anyway. Look at how Fergie got some pretty shit United sides across the line. If Pep was managing Arsenal last year and you guys had Arteta maybe the outcome might have been different, who knows.
I suspect it certainly would have been

It definitely does detract from our achievements when some of our fans say that what we were up against isn’t very good.

I’ve always found it strange when they belittle our challengers to the point where they’re pretty much saying they’re shit. We even had some who said it about 2018-2022 Liverpool, a team that we had to win 14 games on the bounce to beat them to one title, a team that got 99 and 97 points and got to three CL finals, winning one. We came out of that period having won more league titles and more trophies all-in than that great Liverpool side, which makes our success even better.

The league has never been stronger. I think teams down the bottom of the league now would challenge for European spots in the 90s. I think some of United’s title winning teams from the mid-90s would struggle to get into the top half of today’s Prem.

only have to look at yesterday for that mate, every pundit had brighton down as top four certainties and west ham battered em yesterday, everyone is capable these days

My man.

If you look at that 2012 City team Kompany, Silva and Aguero walk into last season's Arsenal side. Yaya Toure is marginal, the rest of that City team get nowhere near last year's Arsenal 1st XI.

Whereas if you compare Arsenal and City last season, Saka walks into the City team, there are several players that you could argue are on par on either side (particularly at the back, maybe Saliba is a smidge above what City had at CB last season but still marginal) but apart from the aforementioned Saka I don't think another Arsenal player is a shoo in for the City team of last season and some of the City side (eg Haaland, Edersen, Bernardo Silva, Rhodri, KDB) are absolutely clear above their Arsenal counterparts (Silva I put in even though he plays in Saka's position and I said Saka walks into a combined Arsenal/City team I just think Silva is so good (controversial opinion but I actually think he may be your best player) that a spot has to be found for him somewhere.

Actually if you offered me 1 current City player we could take to Arsenal it wouldn't be the 'obvious' choice Haaland - I'd take Silva ahead of him.
I assume this is satire ..

Anyway guys my intention wasn't to start this kind of debate, clearly there are going to be biases on both sides so let's agree to disagree. It's all subjective but of course if you are holding the trophy it's always easier to make the case for the defence :)

Pretty sure I said City were a superior team last year in all bar 1 position anyway so I'm not sure where the flaming comes from.

I've no agenda against City - as an Arsenal fan I'm supposed to hate Spurs but in reality the only team I really properly dislike is Liverpool - not because of their players but just the fan base and their warped view of the world and what it owes them.
Pathetic attempt to endear yourself to our fans by being anti-Liverpool. You have already proven your non football intelligence by stating previously that Yaya Toure may not get into your team of last year. Then compounded it by saying that you would not ‘take’ Haaland, despite not having a striker if any worth at your club. You are an idiot..
