The Top Five Race 2024-25 (poll added)

Will we make the top 5?

The commentator today said it's looking likely that the top 5 will make it into the Champions League

Anyone know if he's chatting shite? It was Clive Tyldesley so...
The top two performing leagues in europe by coefficient get an extra spot and it is looking like England will get one

The top 2 countries in this table get the two 5th placed entries.

Currently England and Italy.

This is a bonus!

I have no idea how easy or likely that is to change, but a season of 5th and getting in the CL, the FA Cup and Club World Cup would be a cracking ‘shit’ season!

Aside from the financial implications a season of not playing in Europe while we rebuild would do us no harm. Something like 3 weeks off in the last year and we wonder why the squad looks burned out - and we've got that FIFA money spinner this year too.
I nice wedge from the Club World Cup would certainly soften the blow of something like a 9th placed finish and no Europe next season.

Chelsea finished 10th in 2015-16 (as Champions) and won the league in 2016-17 having no Europe to worry about.

This is concerning. We are at a risk of ending up like the likes of United this season. Looking at these, we are possibly going to lose all of them, maybe except for Brugge IF we improve.

This is a fucking bonus and a half!

I deleted the post you quoted because it's incorrect although the correct info is still currently good news for City

Next year's (2025/26) 5th placed spots are based on the average (avg) co-efficient of each country's clubs that are competing in UEFA competitions in the current 2024/25 season only.

Currently the top 2 are England and Portugal (although Italy isn't far behind in 3rd)

You'd expect Liverpool to go quite deep in this year's Champions League. Arsenal perhaps too. Chelsea should win the entire Conference League. All that will help England's coefficient.

Get the signings right in Jan, Oscar Bobb back and Dias and I think 4th is achievable, but it will be a fight. Any of those not come to pass and Europa League is about as good as it gets.

At the moment 40pts should be the initial target.

I’m shocked how negative this vote is, we are just needing to get a handful of players fit again and we will catch up quickly. OK we are not going to be champions this time, but have some faith you fiserable muckers

Sorry but I won’t be coming to your New Year’s Eve party, I want to be positive

As we will win the champions league this year finishing in the top 4 is irrelevant

Aston Villa came 4th last year on 68 points. Probably will be less this year. But I'd be surprised if we break 60.

I can’t envisage us getting top four at the moment, mainly due to the current form being significantly more than a blip, and there is no sign of our injury situation improving.

I do think that with a couple of good signings next month, the return of Bobb, Dias and a few others that we can muster a charge to fifth (and CL qualification).

We really need a reboot of tactics / fit personnel to give us a chance to find some momentum.

Why does the poll finish in May? You should be able to make a judgement now that the season is halfway through. If you are right or wrong it's irrelevant, but tells you a bit more about your own judgement. Shut it in 2 weeks.

5th place might be our saving grace. last season English clubs fucked it up mostly due to early CL exits from Newcastle and rags and rather bad Europa League campaigns from Brighton and WHU, this season it should be somewhat better overall if rags,Spurs can go few rounds in EL, Chelsea in Coference and Villa, Arse, dippers look ok so far to be in last 16 of CL and dont expect all three to capitulate in that round.
well we would need to add some coeff points to it too and hopefully we dont fuck up the PSG, Brugge games so much we are out of it already in January.

I would guess around 66 could enough to clinch 4th with 64 maybe for 5th or so.

either way we need more than half of remaining max 60 points at least 37-38 for top5 and some of those are deffo hard games like Spurs away, rags away, Arse away, hosting Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle, Villa etc there are few draws in these ad maybe some losses too making it extremely important to beat most of lower half sides starting from Leicester game.

we really dont need the Thursday night schedule if we miss out on CL but go into EL.

One thing we have over all the other team we’re in this race with, is that we know how to perform under pressure and get wins when we need to go on a run as it gets to crunch time later in the season.

We just need to make sure this bad run doesn’t leave us too far behind.
