That derby that we gift wrapped still pisses me off. That could be a huge 3 points if we fail to get there!

-1 pt x 2: Went from drawing to losing away at Brighton and Forest late on (83rd min in both)
-2 pt x 1: Went from winning to drawing away at Brentford (82nd and 90th+ min)
-3 pt x 1: Went from winning to losing at home to United (88th and 90th+)

Should be noted we also went from drawing to winning away at Wolves (+2pt) and losing to drawing home to Arsenal (+1pt), both due to injury time screamers from Johnny Stones.

Overall it's not as bad as i thought, but it's clearly worse than other seasons. This also doesn't tell the whole story that we are giving leads away earlier in the match a lot this season.

Even if we finish 5th and go out of the FA Cup to Bournemouth, in the semis or lose in the final, it’ll still be a good season considering the circumstances.

I expected a drop-off this season. Watching the documentary about last season, you could see that there was a drop-off from the treble season even then. But Pep wrote these words on a wall in the CFA and last season was all about breaking that record, even though you could see we were already starting to slide.

View attachment 150317

We only won 3 games out of 10 against the other teams in the top six and 8 games out of 18 against the teams in the top half as a whole, last season. We were nothing like we were the year before against Madrid in the CL nor United in the FA Cup final.

But we did get that record fourth league title in a row over the line! And I think it took so much out of us after the treble the season before, that there’s been a massive comedown this season, and there would have been even if everyone had stayed fit this season.

However, we couldn’t be any further away from everyone having stayed fit this season:

Bobb missed 44 games all comps / 29 PL
Rodri 42 all / 27 PL
Aké 27 all / 19 PL
Stones 24 all / 18 PL
Grealish 19 all / 13 PL
Doku 18 all / 9 PL
Dias 16 all / 11 PL
Ederson 16 all / 10 PL
De Bruyne 15 all / 9 PL (and of the 30 games he has played, he’s not started in 13 of them)
Akanji 14 all / 9 PL
Foden 6 all / 5 PL (only started 2 of our first 10 games and has been off it all season)

Look at De Bruyne, Gündoğan, Kovačić and Bernardo Silva’s quality compared to the past, their legs have gone and they look like they’ve come to their end. When we once had all of those in their prime, minus Kovačić but plus David Silva and Fernandinho… as well as Rodri!

With these having taken a slide as they get to the end of their careers, and losing the likes of Mahrez and Palmer recently too, our output in creativity has nose dived massively. We have no proper naturally creative players in the squad who are playing regularly and will have a long future here anymore.

This needs urgently addressing!

Rodri deservedly won the Ballon d’Or, he’s been our best player for probably all of our previous three seasons to this one, and we’ve seen him for just 156 minutes all season.

Look at Savinho, Doku, Lewis, Nunes, Ortega-Moreno, McAtee, Simpson-Pusey, Reis, Khusanov, Marmoush and Nico (less so O’Reilly, Mubana and Braithwaite but they have featured in Cup games) who have had to deputise or be bought to plug gaps this season… they’re all either young, new signings - and either or both means inexperienced - or they’re back-ups. This means the quality and experience of who’s playing regularly is nowhere near our usual standard.

Look at the team who faced Brighton the other day: only Dias, Gündoğan and Haaland started the game who were part of our best team just 20 months ago.

There’s been no continuity at the back. No Ederson (and even when he has played he’s not been at his brilliant best from previous seasons, despite 3 assists) for much of the season is huge to the way we play, Aké Stones Dias and Akanji all being injured a lot, and our so-called club captain Walker deserting his team mid-season.

At Brighton and Sporting away, our back six was Ortega-Moreno, Lewis, Walker, Simpson-Pusey, Gvardiol and Kovačić. If everyone was fit, only Gvardiol would get in that back 6 and that’s over half the team.

Plus I do think the dragging on of the 115 charges case is impacting everyone at the club and in the stands. Everyone just wants it over with now. It’s tiring!

All of that would impact any team. Put that sort of thing on us in 2017-18 and we wouldn’t have got 100 points, in 2018-19 and we wouldn’t have won the domestic quadruple, in 2022-23 and we wouldn’t have won the treble, and that in any of our four league titles in a row seasons and we wouldn’t have won them.

So, any sort of positive achievement this season represents a good season in my eyes.
What you say is true but we need top five and from our current position we should be able to do it. To fail will be a disaster imo. The FA Cup is largely irrelevant unless as a gateway into the TNC, should all else fail. We had the good days now is our time to suffer, it only depends on how much and how long.

Much harder now we’ve lost Haaland for a significant part of the rest of the season. We've lost the plot recruitment wise the last 18 months/2 years. Paying for it now big time

Whilst the recruitment has been poor, you can't legislate for the long term injuries to key players. Haaland will be a big miss, but in Marmoush we have a player who has a decent goal tally this season. However, we need other players to chip in and find some form in what is a pivotal point of the season eg Foden, Kdb, Doku and Savinho.

I thought Forest will drop points in Feb, March, April when the pressure is usually getting higher but no sign of it. they just won also 3x in a row on penalties in FA Cup as well, while getting a draw vs dippers, Arse and beating City and rags now.

their remaining 8 games are not that difficult on paper. Chelsea or Barcodes have harder fixtures left.
unless huge drop off now Forest will take one of CL places, even 3rd is possible as there isnt enough consistency in the others including City.

really hoping Spurs can get something vs Chelsea in the midweek round. we need Maresca under immense pressure each game as he doesnt have the experience to handle this kind of pressure imo.

Newcastle imo is getting bit of extra momentum from the cup win, and they have Brentford home, Leicester away this week, that can be easily 6 points for them if they dont mess around. after that their draw is pretty hard...

sadly I cannot see Pep winning at old toilet, no matter how shit rags are. worst fucking rags side in 40 years but they won at Etihad which still irks me. they struggle to score sometimes vs lower half sides but wait for City defense to gift them something.

but lets just rip Leicester apart first.

Forest will have 3rd wrapped up. Just too much is going their way this season.

Just got to aim for 4th or 5th.

think 3rd has gone now esp with the Haaland news so 4th and 5th between City, Chelsea,Newcastle and Brighton, Newcatle with a game in hand, going to be tough but think we can do it

It’s looking very tight , looking at the remaining fixtures for us Chelsea and Newcastle I think we have the easier games

Looking at our fixtures you could make an argument that we should win all of them

If we can get a big three points on Sunday I would say we are favourites with a bit of momentum going into the last 7 games

A loss and I can see us tailing off

I think it's 2 from 5 now for the last spots. Forest have enough of a cushion I think It's Chelsea, Newcastle, us, villa and brighton in the running with any 2 of those being genuine possibilities, just whoever can get the form together.

We've got the biggest advantage in that our fixtures are by far the easiest on paper, but we have injuries to contend with and there's the issue that we're probably the one team from those who has been at the poorest baseline standard all season.

By that I mean the other sides involved have had good spells throughout the season with good results mixed in with poor spells, we haven't really had that good spell, chelsea are the only side in the top 10 that weve beaten away all season which was also the first game, weve also only beaten 3 of them at home. It's questionable whether we have another gear to find as we haven't shown it so far.

Dont subscribe to this idea that points wise united is a must win. If we can win all our home games and beat Southampton away who are still yet to accumulate enough points to not be the worst premier league side ever that should be enough really.

Look at newcastles fixtures, they've got to play arsenal away, they've also got to play villa and brighton away and Chelsea at home. That's all the other rivals except us, so there's 3 times at least 1 side in the hunt is guaranteed to drop points already.

Chelsea have got Liverpool and forest to play yet.

Villa are probably the most in form side but they are still in the champions league and the fa cup and then they've got us, Newcastle, as well as spurs and united.

Brighton have Liverpool, Newcastle as well as palace who they have that odd rivalry with.

All the other contenders will drop a fair few points themselves with much harder schedules, that should give us enough leeway to scrape into the champions league spots with just a competent end to the season.

We will have to be really shit to not get in from here.

United - shit and only concern is Europa.
Palace - Wembley on their minds, nothing to play for
Everton - nothing to play for
Villa - tough game
Southampton - shit and nothing to play for.
Wolves - will be safe by then, nothing to play for.
Bournemouth - nothing to play for by that time
Fulham - nothing to play for.

We would have to be incredibly crap to fuck that up. Worse than we were pre
Xmas.

Don’t jinx it.

If we were to lose on Sunday and Newcastle win on Saturday and get a win in the game in hand, they go 5 points clear of us.

If that happens we can forget top 4. It will be us and Villa fighting it out for the last 5th placed

Chelsea's fixture list is going to see them come undone in my opinion, plus they will go all the way in the conference league.

So if Newcastle are 5 points clear of us with 7 games remaining we can forget about catching them. No chance. Mission impossible.

Have you watched any of the run ins in recent seasons ?

I’m not sure our form is good enough to get us over the line. I think the way we are playing we can’t take any opposition lightly and I don’t think anyone will fear playing us.

Let’s be honest, we probably don’t deserve top 5, do we? Yes we have easier fixtures but injuries, poor player form and a lack of tactical direction mean these are far from nailed on results.
