The Tottenham Thread 12/13

Dembele is a good player but Yaya Toure is a beast, and no point answering Barry v Sandro as everyone who doesn't watch Barry every week thinks he's sh*te, like I do with Sandro but sure Spuds fans would tell me different.

Just remember Dave we're the Champions of England so you'll have to try a lot harder with these wind ups!

Bale's bird should have swallowed.

hope she is happy.

Ha Ha, Bale would n't have turned up against chelsea anyway, he had his monthly Gareth Bale Show last week against the Jocks so you will have to wait a while for the next, I am sure he is happy as there at least half a chance his baby will grow up to look like a normal member of its species.

Spurs were shite. The media's stupid "We Love Spurs" Brigade were at it again with their, "just because Spurs always play shite doesn't mean they aren't brilliant" cretinisms.
STFU.

We love you Dave :D

Just saw motd and that chap Walker did himself no favours.

Spurs seem similar in strength to last season but Chelsea looked very good in midfield-attack and deserved the win.

Walkers never been great defensively and he's having a bit of a mare this season. He thought he'd boot the ball at mata and squared up to him once or twice but mata didn't bite, Infact he was bloody brilliant. Probably one of the best solo performances I've seen against us at the lane in a while

You're spot on about their midfield, hazard, mata and Oscar really were excellent. Ramiers seemed to be everywhere and mikel held the ship well too. Torres looked poor though. They'll be up there with your lot come the end of the season but torres I still question. They thoroughly deserved the win either way

As for us there are a few things I can say about the match. Walker, Gallas and friedel had a mare at the back. Sigurdson just isn't working out yet, lennon and Defoe played very well. Defoes workrate since AVB came in is brilliant.

I try to look at the big picture, we were without dembele, bale and adebayor (majority of the match) those 3 are our most dangerous players and we still got two goals. Hugo lloris is a fantastic goalie and I'm sure he could have kept out cahills volley. I'm not saying we would have won, definitely not, but maybe made it a bit more tricky for them.

Without modric and vdv we are so much weaker and we're still yet to boss a game for 90 minutes. The race for fourth is well and truly on. At this moment in time it's hard to predict who it'll be. More than likely arsenal but they aren't wowing me much either

Yeah, you chaps need to give a couple of seasons to AVB i think. I do rate him but he needed the right club and Chelsea was not it.

I think you will be sniffing around the top 4 by the end of the season but may suffer a bit in winter (cold, niggles etc).

I think I'd rather us suffer in the winter than crashing spectacularly at the end like last season!

Feels like we're in second gear so far and the season hasn't started to gain momentum yet. I bet that's how you feel perhaps?

It is that mate yeah, well compared to last season it seems that way but someone posted stats that we were better of than last season i think last week.

Either way it feels like that yeah.
If you can get Dembele and Bale back and keep your core fit. Then you could do more damage because for all their bluster Arsenal are not really doing as their first couple of games suggested they might i.e. do pretty damned well.

I bet you have a few AVB haters and or general kneejerkers already calling for his head ?

Think the Title challenge might have to be postponed for a year

Let's re-assess and aim for 4th and once we get CL football, Then AVB can work his magic and sign the likes of Falcao and Willian.

This is the only Falco you will ever see at the lane, unless he's playing for us or Chelsea.

Which begs the question, why were Lloris and Adebayor, who were both available, omitted from your biggest game of the season so far (considering the AVB history, London derby and us stealing your CL place at the last second)?

Dembele being injured is unfortunate but this is a squad game. I can sympathise with Bale because he was literally snatched away by fate at the 11th hour and by all accounts should have played; but these unfortunate events shouldn't overshadow the fact that AVB didn't pick the best available team to handle one of the most difficult matches you will play this season.

I thought we played pretty well considering many of our usual first team players were out or not match fit/selected - Dembele, Bale, Adebayor, Kaboul, Ekotto, and Lloris (and Parker still out - would have been helpful to bring him on instead of Livermore when we were ahead).

Maybe I'm kidding myself re CFC, but I thought Spurs caused them a lot of problems. They were clinical, and Spurs defended badly.

Mata had a great game, but I thought CFC were very lightweight in midfield with the result that Spurs got at their back 4 quite easily.

Bit of both to be honest Chelski definately have a poor back 4 but their midfield is so strong

They caused us a lot of problems for a 10 or so minute period at the beginning of the second half, where they capitalised on a free kick which our entire team decided to not defend and took the lead through an admittedly brilliant play from Lennon and Defoe. Through it is debatable whether Lennon was attempting to shoot or actually make a pass, but the same could be said of whether Hazard meant to make that pass to Mata or just into space so I'll look the other way if they will.

Our pivot of Ramires and Mikel controlled the game quite easily (as they have done against everyone we've played so far) and Hazard, Mata and Oscar ahead of them cut Spurs open at will. Torres is still glaring weakness (a better striker could have converted the two clear chances he was given) and it still concerns me that he is pretty much handed that start every week without competition. A lot is consistently said about our defence seeming "shaky" - but its still outperforming every other team in the league by quite a margin. Its hardly what it was in 2005, but its doing quite a bit better than everyone else so far. I don't think our defence has been abysmal in any instances this season with the exception of the footballing lesson Falcao gave us in the Super Cup.

We have never had the most patient of fans, doesn't help when the board love the revolving door, it's always held us back. So far I think they're well behind him

-- Tue Oct 23, 2012 12:09 am --

Maybe with adebayor he's bringing him back in slowly from injury, I have no idea with lloris, I'd like to see him play. Maybe that's his style of management to fire up big players? Who knows

Well done either way, no real complaints. Your defencenwill will will need to tighten up a bit if you want to win the title and maybe Falcao in the transfer Window will be enough. It's you or city for the title I reckon
