Maybe I'm kidding myself re CFC, but I thought Spurs caused them a lot of problems. They were clinical, and Spurs defended badly.
Mata had a great game, but I thought CFC were very lightweight in midfield with the result that Spurs got at their back 4 quite easily.
They caused us a lot of problems for a 10 or so minute period at the beginning of the second half, where they capitalised on a free kick which our entire team decided to not defend and took the lead through an admittedly brilliant play from Lennon and Defoe. Through it is debatable whether Lennon was attempting to shoot or actually make a pass, but the same could be said of whether Hazard meant to make that pass to Mata or just into space so I'll look the other way if they will.
Our pivot of Ramires and Mikel controlled the game quite easily (as they have done against everyone we've played so far) and Hazard, Mata and Oscar ahead of them cut Spurs open at will. Torres is still glaring weakness (a better striker could have converted the two clear chances he was given) and it still concerns me that he is pretty much handed that start every week without competition. A lot is consistently said about our defence seeming "shaky" - but its still outperforming every other team in the league by quite a margin. Its hardly what it was in 2005, but its doing quite a bit better than everyone else so far. I don't think our defence has been abysmal in any instances this season with the exception of the footballing lesson Falcao gave us in the Super Cup.
