The Tottenham Thread 12/13

Maybe I'm kidding myself re CFC, but I thought Spurs caused them a lot of problems. They were clinical, and Spurs defended badly.

Mata had a great game, but I thought CFC were very lightweight in midfield with the result that Spurs got at their back 4 quite easily.
They caused us a lot of problems for a 10 or so minute period at the beginning of the second half, where they capitalised on a free kick which our entire team decided to not defend and took the lead through an admittedly brilliant play from Lennon and Defoe. Through it is debatable whether Lennon was attempting to shoot or actually make a pass, but the same could be said of whether Hazard meant to make that pass to Mata or just into space so I'll look the other way if they will.

Our pivot of Ramires and Mikel controlled the game quite easily (as they have done against everyone we've played so far) and Hazard, Mata and Oscar ahead of them cut Spurs open at will. Torres is still glaring weakness (a better striker could have converted the two clear chances he was given) and it still concerns me that he is pretty much handed that start every week without competition. A lot is consistently said about our defence seeming "shaky" - but its still outperforming every other team in the league by quite a margin. Its hardly what it was in 2005, but its doing quite a bit better than everyone else so far. I don't think our defence has been abysmal in any instances this season with the exception of the footballing lesson Falcao gave us in the Super Cup.
Thought the same about torres, may have mentioned it in a previous post I forget. I'm not sure if he'll every regain the form he showed at pool

Good win yesterday, Now let's beat Norwich and Wigan and then head to City with some confidence and then turn them over and cement ourselves as title contenders.

Good goal from Dempsey, Can see him racking up 15+ again this year as he just seems to get into the right place at the right time, His goal at United was class along with yesterday's goal, If Bale had been playing against Chelsea last week, No way in hell would we have lost as you only need to watch what average wingers like Valencia did to Chelsea last night, Imagine what Bale would have done...

Still here then?

It's frustrating that we haven't been able to play with our best team really yet. Adebayor, Lloris, Ekotto, Kaboul, Dembele, and Parker all missing for various reasons. I do think that with these players available we would have beaten Chelsea, but still 5 wins in the previous 6 league games so AVB is doing a good job with what he has available.

Hopefully yesterday was Friedel's last game as first choice keeper and we give Lloris the spot now.

Any truth to the reports of Adebayor throwing a tantrum or is that journalist nonsense?

No the 'tantrum' and wants to leave stuff are bullshit, but he was disappointed not to play against Chelsea especially with Dembele and Bale out from what I've heard. Apparently he had a "back injury" this weekend so wasn't on the bench but I don't know if that's bs or if it's accurate.

Come back with 10 games to go and STILL in contention for the league.. Then I'll beleive you have a chance to win the premier..

Cool. Thanks for the info. Never trust the press to be honest.

you dreamy fuckwit

On suggestions that he may have dived to win a penalty in the COC game vs Norwich, Walker replied: "I thought I got a clip so I went down. It was a foul. The referee has awarded a penalty, or the linesman did. They were close enough to see it. If I felt I was touched then I am going to go down. That's it"

Isn't that admitting to diving??

Yeah, but he's from up north. He's not going to go down softly...

Dempsey > Dembele.

No way. Apart from his goal at United, Dempsey has done a grand total of nothing at Spurs so far. Dembele is twice as talented as Dempsey. It's like comparing Milner to Yaya.

Genuinely not sure if serious there....

Neither of Dempsey or Siggy have settled in well so far. Dempsey has at least shown a knack of being in the right place at the right time but the jury is still out. Siggy is definitely a talented player but is struggling to stake a claim in games, imo if he'd have been playing behind a fit and firing Ade he'd be doing much better as he'd benefit from the kind of play you don't get from playing behind Defoe.

We miss Dembele greatly as well, Huddlestone is dividing opinions of Spurs fans as we know that he can absolutely boss games and has tremendous technique but it was a long time ago that we saw him at his best and injuries may have taken their toll. Who knows how close we actually were to Moutinho but we definitely need another creative midfielder who times when Dembele is out, none of Sandro Livermore or Parker are going to be threading incisive balls through to the forwards often....

Ask any Fulham fan who they miss more their side. Dempsey's transfer came very late. There is a level of instinct in front of goal that Dembele lacks.

I think at the end of the season statistics will suggest that of the two midfielders, Dempsey scored more and set up more. This is a player who lives for "wet nights at Stoke". Dembele has gone missing for several spells during his time at Fulham. I've had the opportunity to watch both 5-6 times via a corporate sponsorship.

Flame all you want. Dembele is a good player, I just think Dempsey is more prolific.

Of course Dempsey scores more goals he basically plays as a striker, Dembele is twice the player though even if his goalscoring tally is poor. Silva doesn't get many goals but he still one of our best players.

Dempsey played wide of the midfielders for a very long time in setup. It's his precision inside the box from deeper runs that make his more effective than Dembele. At the very end of the day, Clint Dempsey will win you more games this year than Moussa Dembele.

Im pretty sure most Spurs fans would choose Dembele over Dempsey.
