The Tottenham Thread 12/13

No sign of our resident Spurs chaps tonight. Odd, that.
We always pop on win lose or draw, but not sure why we have to be straight on the dot.

We played shite, sorry if we don't rush onto the forum to read everyone grading davethegooner!

I don't know who's worse at the moment, spurs or arsenal. Luckily they have Wilshire back and have carzola

How did you play against west Ham? Did you outplay them? I heard fat Sam complaining about a disallowed goal that's about it.

Fair play for coming on. For a Spud, you're not TOO bad! Yes, we were the better team (in my unbiased opinion!). And yes; they did have a VERY borderline offside decision go against them. Are you lot looking forward to next weekend?

my starting 11 at Spurs would be -

Friedel
Walker-Dawson-Caulker-Vertonghen
Parker
Lennon-Dempsey-Dembele-Bale
Defoe

Sorry that came across as snappy, spurs bring out the worst in me! Not looking forward to next week at all. If we play anything like last season at the coms I'll be happy.

We just lack urgency and directness at the moment. I don't think we've played well a whole 90 minutes yet. Losing modric and vdv is an almighty kick in the teeth. As someone mentioned Dempsey and sigurdson have yet to hit form. We're missing dembele badly. Sandro was injured yesterday too.

The only positive is that city haven't hit second gear yet either. Let's hope for a good game and see what happens! Speak soon man

Edit - was hoping you'd beat hammers, they're doing well, the bastards

Spurs beating Barcelona 3-0 away in the NextGen, that is impressive. This lad has scored a perfect hat-trick, must be quite a talent: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/spurs/Academy/the-academy-profiles.page?PlayerName=Shaquile%20Coulthirst" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/spurs/A ... 4-0 now.

Still can't believe last season's nextgen, proper ballsup on our account. Glad to see we're doing well this season though

Couldn't be playing you at a worse time really. We're ravaged by injuries to important players (Dembele, Kaboul, Assou-ekotto, Parker), and I cannot understand why AVB is not playing Lloris and Adebayor. Still, even with Lloris and Adebayor we really miss Dembele. Sandro is top quality but he can't stop your attack on his own and needs Dembele next to him so he isn't doing two mens jobs.

I see you dominating possession en route to a routine 2-0 win for City.

Assou-Ekotto and Kaboul? Are you serious. Average, at best, defenders. Clichy and AK are way ahead of BAE in terms of ability, and I wouldn't swap any of our CBs (at least, not now that Savic has gone) for Kaboul.

Yes, but we are not Premier League Champions, so it goes without saying that your players will be better than us on average. I'm sure Mourinho wouldn't fancy many of our players either. I would also say that you must not have watched many of our matches to proclaim Benni and Kaboul as "average". I would regard Shawcross and Huth as "average" players, not Kaboul. Kaboul has been our best centre back for the past couple of seasons. Benni has a couple of wobbles a season, but i think it is fair to say that he has played better than Kolarov over the past couple of seasons, and if it wasn't for Kolarov's last few games (all of which have come whilst Benni has been injured), then you wouldn't be saying that.

In short Kaboul and Benni may not be big injuries if they were playing for you, but they are big injuries for us

Good luck Spuds. No offence City but sort of need you to drop points. Business and all that.

Fair point re. the respective squad strengths. Still stand by my point that, simply looking at those two as players rather than Spurs' players, I still think they are no better than average.

Two points after the City v Spurs match:

AVB:

I noticed at the game that City were being continually caught offside, and when I watched it on MOTD2 the analysis picked up on "the high defensive line" that Spurs were playing.

Why would you play this with Silva and Aguero in the City team. Very strange tactics

The other aspect was that City ended up with 3 at the back, and Maicon playing as a right winger. That should have opened up the game and allowed Spurs to counter-attack at will but AVB did not respond. A fatal error. If there's one thing Spurs are good at it's breaking with pace.

Managers can make mistakes, but this was a disastrous game for AVB.

Bale

Even allowing for the manager's negative tactics, why was he so quiet? This happened many times last season too. To be considered a top player, you have to have a level of consistency. It's no good turning on the after-burners at home to Maribor if you don't bother at the home of the Champions. Yesterday was a platform for Bale, but I remember just 2 2nd half moments of good attacking play. Nowhere near good enough.

reg. AVB: The more I watch his teams, the more I believe that he got lucky at Porto. He had an incredibly good side, playing in an average league.

reg. Bale: He was having to cover for a very poor Vertonghen yesterday. Vertonghen's goal at Old Trafford has led to a lot of overrating. He is poor defensively and it showed y'day. Both the goals we scored came from moves starting vertonghen's side of the pitch. Even in that second half at Old Trafford, United found a lot of joy down Vertonghen's wing.
