I dont know much about the above player, what are his attributes?

Basically Carrick but more physical and stronger defensively imo. He's the type of defensive midfielder that touches and passes the ball more than any player in the team.

First choice defensive midfielder for France who can also play as a central defender.

For £9 million I would say its very unlikely you got a better player than Carrick

Would he start for us or Chelsea? They have strengthen the depth in their squad, but in terms of first XI, there's not much between this season and last. With the exception of Soldado.

He's first choice for the Brazilian national team, of course he would start for Chelsea. Their central midfield isn't particularly strong, and Ramires is behind Paulinho in the pecking order for Brazil. For City idk, I get the argument that Fernandinho doesn't start because he's only played in Ukraine and I think that is a valid argument, I think he's top class. Whether Paulinho is better idk but I rate him very highly and we will see this season.

I would imagine that all 4 signings will start for us this weekend. Too soon for Sandro, so Capoue will probably play in midfield behind Dembele and Paulinho, imo Chadli is more suited to the 4-3-3 than Lennon and I think he will be a shrewd signing, and Soldado of course will be our first choice striker.

I really wouldn't be too sure about that, if I was you.

Re: The Tottenham Thread 13/14

Thanks, competition for Sandro and a replacement for Huddlestone and or Parker then?

AVB is a very good squad builder it appears.

I'm guessing you're saying that because you haven't seen him play then? Idk why I would judge based on the price tag, he's a player I've seen enough of to believe that he is quality. Better or worse than Carrick idk. Besides, we bought Carrick himself for 3.5 million.

That is very true but he was playing in Division 1 at the time. Also in fairness playing for spurs made him a much better player as well. No I have not seen him play so it would be largely an assumption on my part but Carrick is a very very good player and judging by the teams after him before you threw your hat in the ring he wasn't exactly the toast of world football but with the way you and THFC are talking about him I thought lots of big clubs would be falling over themselves to get him<br /><br />-- 15 Aug 2013, 08:55 --<br /><br />

The question is WHY do you rate paulinho very highly, how much of him have you actually seen, if you are an avid watcher of the brazillian league then fair enough but most people seem to be rating him hugely highly based on seeing him in a few games at the confed cup where he was part of a bang average brazil team (yes I know they won it). he hasnt played in a top league in europe yet most people are making him out to be the second coming, im sure he will turn out to be a very good player but the question has to be asked of him and capoue if they are THAT good why are they available for so little and why is no one else in for them, both chelsea, united and arsenal need a good defensive midfielder are you suggesting that no one else knew about this guy but AVB knows better than everyone else and has stolen a march to get this guy im sorry but i dont buy it, he is a good manager but these are not top class signings they are good signings, the whole world knew about soldados release clause and Madrid and Barcelona both needed a new striker along with a few other clubs and they passed over on it but apparently for you guys he's gonna be a world beater. Like i said you have signed good players but thats what they are good players, THFC would have everyone beleive that these guys are gonna make you title challengers whereas realistically they should sustain the level that you are at rather than push you forward

The same thing applies to the signings of Paulinho and Soldado this summer. I don't think the fact that we didn't have any public competition to sign them is something to look too much into. Who were you competing with to sign Navas or Negredo? I don't remember any other top class clubs being after them either but it doesn't make them poor signings for you. Same applies to Vertonghen, Dembele, and Lloris from last summer but they turned out to be pretty good.<br /><br />-- Thu Aug 15, 2013 8:16 am --<br /><br />

Yes I've watched Paulinho play for Corinthians. I also know how the new signings fit into the system AVB is implementing for next year and I am certain that they are not going to be just holding us at the same level. Paulinho will be a starter, and Capoue is good enough to challenge Sandro and Dembele for their spots in the team. Chadli is the only one I'm unsure of, haven't seen a great deal of him playing yet.

However we've replaced Huddlestone and Parker with Paulinho and Capoue, that is a huge upgrade even if those players aren't as good as I think they are.
