Spurs U21 v Manchester City

Archer

Alex McQueen, Kevin Stewart, Ball, Fryers

Falque, Sandro, Carroll, Townsend

Bentelab, Kane

The wage bill will be huge for that team. Does this class as buying success?

The wage bill is the same whether they play or not.

Sandro is coming back from injury and the other players you highlighted were on the bench at Palace yesterday.

First game of the season, few injuries for both teams and newly promoted Palace having their fans right behind them. Not the best performance by Spurs but a win nonetheless. It is tough to go to a newly promoted team first up as it is high intensity. I think credit to Spurs they got the win even if the performance wasn't great. I think Palace have been written off by most in terms of staying up but I can see them surviving based on grit and determination even if on paper they dont look all that good.

Nothing on the Official City or Spurs sites yet or on Vierra's Twitter account.

They look even fooking worse on grass.

Grit and determination are one thing mate but yesterday, they were so technically bereft, I cant see anything but relegation come the end of the season for palace.

The strongest team you can put out. You must consider this a massive game.

Manchester City U21s v Spurs:

Gunn, Drury, Leigh, Denayer, Bossearts, Evans, Bytygi, Hutton, Hiwula, Lopes, Ntcham

Subs: Bunn, Lawlor, Glendon, Huws, Plummer.

This lineup very much emphasises the different approach Spurs and City are taking to the U21 competition, Spurs side is laced with first team players either returning from injury, or else simple not selected to take part on the pitch yesterday. City, on the other hand, have chosen a side entirely made of young players. We could have given games to players unlikely to be involved tonight, like Sinclair, or Barry, but have chosen not to. I'm happier with our choice than the Spurs one, U21 football is supposed to be to develop your youth, not give game time to the lesser members of your squad.

Just as a matter of interest, when do players like Townsend, Carroll and Fryers get a game then?

Or do you expect them to go the entire season without playing?

If they're good enough to play for Spurs then they'll get gametime in the first team, if they aren't then why allow them to stiffle the growth of a young player who has the potential to be better than them?

-- Mon Aug 19, 2013 12:01 pm --

oh the irony. none of them players will ever reach first team and you know it.

You mean apart from Lopes, who already has made his first team debut, and scored on it?

Townsend has just turned 22, Carroll is 21 and Fryers is 20.

Which young player's growth are they stifling?

A shame that Seko Fofana isn't playing. No Rusnak too.

Great start for the Under-21 lads. 1-0 (3 mins)

Tom Carroll on target with a strike from just outside the penalty area

Incredible pace in our U21s match v City, chances both ends, Falque & Kane both close, still 1-0, 22 mins gone
