Great win but should have scored 4 or 5 goals. Another indication why Defoe rarely starts today

You think Soldado would of done better?
Sorry but i feel that if you give Defoe a run of games he will start scoring soon.
I mean he didn't score today but he did cause problems which Soldado does not do.
Defoe is a far better player than Soldado.
Didn't watch the game, but only speculation and have not even watched the MOTD highlights yet, but I bet is because Defoe can at least make a stab of holding the ball up when it is played to his feet.

I saw the Tottenham line up and thought it was decent. Sometimes you have to drop your best players to play your best team. Funny that if they beat Liverpool they will be likely be top 4.

It helps when you´ve got a team of fookin capitulating surrender monkeys handing you the points - something O´Shoite and Orange would never do against us- fookinmackem coonts - hope the twats sink - Poyet? ex Spuds and Chavs ..mmm........

I said last week villa boas best way of dealing with media is not moaning but winning games. He did that at fulham and sunderland and now media saying nothing. Everyone now talking about moyles but it could soon change.

Spurs have done well to get to 27 points as they have beyond average but their be delighted where they are considering how poor they been for side that spent 110 million.

I think sometimes you have to speak out when there is a blatant witch hunt. The fuss over Loris for one. Even as a young teen I have been knocked out and tried to play on for a bit. If that was another club they would have been praising the lion hearted bravery of Loris.

The best way to shut them up is to win, but they will be back as soon as Tottenham go through a bad period. A huge game for them against Liverpool and then in a few weeks against United. These are the three teams I see fighting it out for fourth.

But if media do come back if they don,t win then just ignore them and focus on your team winning again. whatever media say deep down means nothing really.

Loris good keeper but still prone to odd mistake like yesterday. Spurs still lack a quality defence and striker and for me did not always spend 110 million well. But their be very happy to be on 27 points without playing that well. They have also benfited from weakeness of their top four rivals in likes of liverpool and united.

I think you make a fair point about money spent. Wherever the blame lies, I think it's inarguable that Soldado and Lamela especially have done very little to warrant what we paid for them. Paulinho, imo, has been pretty good for most of the season. And while AVB may not like the stick he gets from the press, something has pressured him into reexamining his system/best XI and it may just turn out that Lennon on the right, Defoe up top, an Townsend on the left may actually work best in this league in a lot of fixtures given the players he has at his disposal.

With all the media talk and fan debate about all sorts, including Spurs, I decided to get a bit of perspective, including looking at the table.

Spurs are only 3 points off Liverpool in second place. They are five above United in ninth. Goal difference is shite mind!

They are still very much in the chasing pack for all their faults (whichever ones you want to pin to them).

Still don't fancy them for 4th, but if they can get the team sorted and start putting in some good performances they might make me change my mind.

Things are so tight its making for a great season.

P.S. For anybody interested, the bottom of the table makes interesting reading too, well worth a look.

My starting 11 would be -

Lloris
Walker-Dawson-Vertonghen-Rose
Sandro-Dembele
Lennon-Paulinho-Townsend
Defoe

And as Spurs' next game is home to Liverpool, they could end up right back in the mix!

I wonder what Alan Sugar will have to say about that. (Actually, I couldn't give a toss).

Thin line, but officially no. Most teams use it. When it comes to doping or border line techniques, I think all big teams are guilty.

Great game for Tottenham today. Not just the result, but AVB tried a lot of things and found out a lot about his team. I said before that Holtby has what it takes to be a central midfielder. He played there today and was great. Still requires training, but I think he will eventually become a fantastic central midfielder. The Tottenham team needed someone better on the ball and he was the man. I think he will gently be phased into this role with perhaps Sandro.

Townsend may not like it, but he was played as a orthodox left winger and was much better than he was on the right wing. I think AVB will start playing him there more often. Lamela still not ready and the defence still bad, but he has found out a lot about the team.

Great analysis as always Crystal, you seem to watch a lot of football!

Agree about Holtby he played really well, that's 3 games now where he has been man of the match for me. He's starting to show the form he did when he was playing for Shalke. Now Eriksen is fit I wonder if he will sling both in the team? Maybe Eriksen in a more advanced role

I really enjoyed Townsend on the left, he played a cameo the other day against Sunderland and we could have scored a couple from his left wing crosses.

Lamela still needs time as you said.

Nice to see Soldado score, maybe that will give him the go ahead against Liverpool on the weekend.

It was nice to see a couple of the youngsters given a run out. Fredricks really impressed me, full of energy and some great runs.

Less pressure on AVB until Suarez tears us a new arsehole! I love Daws but he is way out of his depth lately. Vlad and Jan should be CB's now Rose is back from injury

-- Fri Dec 13, 2013 3:06 am --

Don't get the hype with lloris. Made some poor mistakes in recent games, if that was joe he would be nailed to a cross and burnt alive.

I think Joe's form was off and on for over a year whereas Hugo's has been a couple of games.

Lloris has been an excellent goalie for us, he has struggled a bit since that concussion from Lukaku. He was brilliant against Fulham a few weeks ago but lost the plot against Sunderland with that howler.

I wouldn't swap him for anyone really. I'm sure he'll have a bad spell but even the best have them

I'm not as convinced maybe by Holtby as you, but I do agree that he has stepped up his play. And while I know that AVB loves his inverted wingers, I think Townsend on the left (with Naughton or Rose) and Lennon on the right (with Walker) gives us the ability to really get at some teams. Our struggles this year have been how slowly we transition from defense to offense and we've proven time and again that we don't have players with the technical ability to play through the middle. I'm sure both Soldado and Defoe wouldn't mind a couple of speed merchants bombing down the wings and whipping balls in.

Our central mid depth also gives AVB a lot of flexibility to play a more defensive lineup with Capoue and Sandro breaking up attacks and Paulinho and Dembele a bit more forward thinking. I also think any of them can play alongside the other depending on how we want to play. Like you say, Lamela is just not quite up to speed yet.

The natural width is great, Soldado was in heaven with the crosses. I'm not sure why AVB reverted back to putting Andros on the right, that killed any service bar Fredricks getting some balls in.

Unbeaten in 4 now and played a lot better football, but the opposition weren't anything amazing, United, Fulham, Sunderland and Anchzi (sp) . As Crystal said AVB has mixed it up a bit, but he has to definitely grow some balls and get Vlad and Jan at the back. Dawson vs Suarez has me worried
