Redknapp blames players for slump


Harry Redknapp said the players must accept responsibility for Tottenham's recent poor form.

Two consecutive defeats have seen Spurs slip out of the top four for the first time since November and many have suggested that the current slump is a result of Redknapp’s lack of squad rotation throughout the season - including defender Vedran Corluka, on loan at Bayer Leverkusen.

However, the former West Ham manager said that he has no regrets over his actions and has hinted that the players should look a little closer to home when seeking to apportion blame.

"I'm very happy with what I've done this season," Redknapp told reporters.

"I've done what I've been allowed to do and I couldn't do any more.

"At the end of the day, it's down to the players. When things are going well, we give them all the credit.

"If we hadn't had a bad run, we would have qualified for the Champions League."

Redknapp also denied that his squad was suffering from fatigue, insisting that modern-day players can have little to complain about.

"Look at people like Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney and Ashley Cole," he said.

"“They play well over 40 games most seasons and they're not rotated. It's a load of nonsense and it's an excuse.

"If people keep telling players they're tired, they'll believe it. The pitches they train and play on now are unbelievable. It's not like days gone by when teams were playing ankle-deep in mud.

"Most of these players have had 30 games and I've rotated where I can in the Europa League and in the FA Cup.

"I don't remember people like Bobby Moore or Dave Mackay complaining about how many games they've played."

Another area of criticism has been the club's January transfer activity, when squad members Steven Pienaar, Sebastien Bassong, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Corluka were allowed to leave with only the injury-prone Ryan Nelsen and Louis Saha coming in.

Redknapp remains stoic, however, and has insisted that his team are not down and out yet.

"f we could have improved a bit in the window, we would, but the people we wanted weren't available," he said.

"We've had a bad run but I think our one bad performance in the league has been when we lost at home to Norwich.

"We're not down or despondent. We have four games to finish in the top three or four and that's what we'll try to do."

Tottenham defender Vedran Corluka believes Harry Redknapp is to blame for Tottenham's slump in form and his actions could result in the team finishing sixth.
The Croatian, on loan at Bayer Leverkusen, says Redknapp should have rotated his squad more and his players are exhausted.
Redknapp farmed Corluka out to the German side, as well as allowing Steven Pienaar to return on loan to Everton.

Corluka said: 'I wouldn’t be surprised if they finished sixth. They didn’t rotate enough. They don’t have depth on the bench. That’s the main problem.
'I watched almost every Spurs game and they played them all with the same 11, 12, 13 players. That’s why the players now are really tired.

'Tottenham, for me, had one of the best teams in England. Of course it will be an unsuccessful season now if they don’t go to the Champions League.'
Spurs were being discussed as title contenders around the turn of the year but are now languishing in fifth place after a run of dire form.

Harry not taking the blame for poor performances? Whaaaaaat!? I've seen it all!

Still remember his pathetic little rant about Modric after we beat them at WHL. Took a real big man to lump all that on one player after an embarrasing loss.
 
I straight up hate that man. So quick to take the credit when it's going well, and even quicker to blame others when it goes pear shaped. Can't get away from the fact that it is 2 years in a row.

Spurs are the media darlings; they and twitchy have been living a charmed one until now. Finally the Spurs love-in is breaking up in a few media corners; any other team would have been anally abused for weeks by now. I remember that dipper supporting spurs apologist Darren Lewis on Talksport last year "Man City will not finish fourth" ; he was right just not in the way his myopic mind thought.

The problem is they won't. The man has done enough at the clubs he's managed before Tottenham that were he Italian, or French, or anything other than English, he would have been hounded out of not just football but the whole bloody country.

England will fail at the Euros, again, but it won't be good ol' cheeky 'Arry's fault. It'l probably be blamed on Barry.

Nah he's a media favorite because he's one of the only English managers plus he whores himself out to them more than anyone else, but if he wrecks their precious baby (the England NT) he will be crucified. And he will no doubt about it, I would be extremely surprised if England get out of the group stages.

Hell England are at great risk of not even qualifying for the world cup with Redknapp at the helm.

“The chairman would have loved Tevez but it wasn’t do-able because his wages are whatever they are, £200,000-a-week.

“Daniel made some enquiries about Tevez and if he could have done it, the chairman would have.

“It was me thinking ‘Tevez... he’s not in the team, he’s fallen out with Roberto Mancini’.

“You don’t know unless you ask. It was just a little try.”

With Emmanuel Adebayor already on a season-loan from City, Tottenham would have had to buy Tevez to stay within Premier League rules.

It never ceases to amaze me just how much of an odious **** 'arry is. They can't afford Adebayor's wages but he wanted Tevez too ? Utter bullshit and just another 'arry excuse for his failings as a coach.

you can bet a pound to a penny they would have only wanted a loan deal but couldnt cos rules say so..
 
Simple fact is if we want Bale and Modric its hard to see them not wanting to join us in the summer.

Personally I am not sure that either can make us better than we currently are over 38 games next season.
