The Tottenham Thread (Merged)

Fans say they want a 'level playing field' but they don't. They really, really don't. A level playing field would give Wigan exactly the same revenue as United.

What people mean when they say this is they liked the hierarchy the way it was. City smashed that hierarchy to bits, and it makes most people uncomfortable. Especially those who were previously a little bit closer to the top than they are right now.

The English love traditional hierarchies. Almost worship them. That's one of our biggest failures as a nation and why we struggle to progress in the modern world.

This is so true. If you suggested a Major League Baseball pooling of commercial income in the Premier League (although it does admittedly happen to some extent with the TV revenue) the biggest howl of protests would be from united and their fans. They complain about how unfair Mansour's largesse is, and what they mean by that is how "unfair" it is to them, rather than football in general.

They were instrumental in creating a system that was skewed to ensure that they remained at the top in an endless cycle of self-perpetuating wealth and power. This system was designed with the express purpose of keeping them at the top at the expense of clubs like City.

They are the last people in football who have a right to pontificate about what is "fair".

Spurs' offer of unpaid PA position is a unjustifiable disgrace, says TUC

Bosses at the Premier League club, which has almost £300million in assets, are looking for a graduate to work in the press office – but are only prepared to pay expenses.
TUC treasurer Mick Gosling said there was ‘no way’ the internship was acceptable when unemployment was so high.
‘The top stars are getting salaries of tens of thousands of pounds a week – how can this be justified,’ he said.
‘These young people have struggled to make a career for themselves – they go to college and are then faced with this Hobson’s choice of working for nothing and getting nothing. This is an absolute disgrace.’
The job, based at the club’s training ground in Enfield, north London, involves hosting the media on match days, monitoring news broadcasts, organising interviews, office admin and writing content for the club’s website.
Spurs said although it was not offering a salary, the successful candidate would be paid expenses.
The work experience offered a ‘unique opportunity for a young person to learn valuable skills that will provide a platform for future employment either within the club or elsewhere in the industry’, a spokesman added.

Tight bastards!

And they wonder why so many were happy at their misfortune. How many millions did Levy get in bonuses the last 3 years? Very shameful that they won't even pay a minimal wage.

I really hope we don't sell Ade to them, make them go pay a real fee for a striker.

Levy is one of 2 Spurs owners

Fwiw, I think people view the 'money' thing way too simplisticly. I don't begrudge City winning the league in fact I was very happy that it happened actually (first time in 17 years someone other than United, Arsenal, or Chelsea won it).

The fact is that any club that has become successful pretty much has made a major investment at some point in their history, either through debt or rich owners. We had to spend £50 million on new training facilities, and will have to spend another £400 million on a new stadium to have a chance of competing with United and Arsenal's "sound fiscal policy."

I'm kind of surprised an oligarch hasn't taken you over. The only thing really holding you back is investment.

A new stadium and some investment in the squad, you would easily surpass Arsenal.

Abramovich tried and Spurs wouldn't meet with him. He then bought Chelsea.

credit were its due this is hilarious.

Levy (like in all things) is looking for maximum value. It's always been the plan to get CL football on a regular basis and a new stadium and then sell.

Sometimes I wonder if there isn't just an general condescending or snobbish attitude towards northerners from many Spurs fans. Why live up there, it's grim, it's poor, it rains all the time, it's nowhere near London. So there must be something wrong with fans of that Manchester club, and a vile intention from anyone wanting to be connected to it. We should just know our place.

It's not just them either, some Mancs I know have developed this attitude after spending too much time down there.

I may be way off the mark, but I just don't get the aggression from Spurs fans when it comes to City, and yet MU get love and respect. Plenty of Arse fans are the same, Charlton, West Ham fans are fine though, no problems.

Just my own observation, been getting a lot of grief recently so thought I'd vent.

Ledley King

released by Spurs

i'd take him on a free as cover for Vinny and Joleon

although now he says hes staying at Spurs in some capacity !!

Re: Ledley King

Yeah, because it woked out really well when we took on Hargreaves.

The guy is finished, his knees have been shot for some time now. A shame really as he is a quality centre half.

Re: Ledley King

Too injury-prone for me.

Glad he managed to stay on the pitch long enough to bring Mario down for our last minute pen, however!

Re: Ledley King

i know injury prone, but he is a hell of a centre half. He would be good cover and would help develop Savic. but not gonna happen anyway.

as Bob said 'the new tealady'

Re: Ledley King

He's on Spurs' list of released players but they're negotiating a new deal with him and he said he doesn't want to play anywhere else, which could mean he retires and takes on another role at Spurs.
