The Tottenham Thread (Merged)

I would have thought this was always going to happen after the club was delisted. Either that or the sale of the club. I am not sure though how attractive Spurs would be to an investor with a ground capacity significantly less than 50k. What happens next will have a huge impact on their history. They're not as big as Arsenal and I think there is no guaranteed CL income in the next few years for any club, as there was when the SKY4 were dominating and they knowingly took out loans out knowing they would be able to pay the loan and interest because of CL income. The risk for Arsenal raising the capital the way they did, was thus less risky for them than it would be for Spurs.

I am not convinced by a point made in that article. It states that Joe Lewis has left the club to manage on it's own. My understanding was that Spurs have had two major rights issues and he pretty much bought all the shares. Can anyone clarify? I know nothing about private sector finance. To be honest, these two paragraph sums up all I know about the issue.

£15 million rights issue in January 2004, which ENIC underwrote. Since a number of shareholders didn't subscribe, ENIC ended up contributing £11 million of the total. The share issue was as much about ENIC increasing their percentage shareholding relatively cheaply (and thereby greatly reducing the average cost per share that they had paid) as it was about injecting funds into Spurs.

Then a £15 million share placement in late 2010 to contribute towards planning and preparation costs and property purchases for the Northumberland Development Project. I think ENIC contributed the full £15 million - or as near as dammit.

Back to the football then.

Harry Redknapp has pencilled in Michael Dawson for a return to action against Cheltenham on Saturday.

The defender has been out with an Achilles problem since August.

He returned to training last week and was back on the bench for Saturday’s Premier League draw at Swansea.

“Michael will play on Saturday,” said Harry. “It will be his first game back. Hopefully he’ll be fit.

“We were struggling for cover at Swansea. He’d only trained once but he put himself up for the bench, that’s typical of him. He’s a fantastic lad.”

Harry also said Aaron Lennon could return from the hamstring injury he suffered against Sunderland on December 18.

“Aaron could be fit. He’s training and we’d like to get a game into him if we can.”

It's not that often that you play against a team you've never met before in a domestic cup competition, so being drawn against Cheltenham Town is a rather unique experience.

In fact, they become the 94th different team Spurs have played in the FA Cup since our first match against West Herts (now Watford FC) in 1894.

I think Harry will use the opportunity to give many of our fringe squad players a run-out, with some experienced first teamers on the bench just in case things don't go quite to plan.

Is it me..or are city and spurs quite similar, always in the shadows of their rivals, but all of a sudden dominating them?

Hmmmmmmmmmm perhaps you could have phrased that better, but I kind of agree

I would much rather Spuds be up there than Liverpool to be honest, we may be witnessing a change in the Prem but both clubs have to hang on in there (at the top) remember United, Arsenal and Chelsea have a lot of experience of being at the top and I expect them all to finish quite strongly

Hmm .. Arsenal finishing strongly .. Clarkie! ;)

I currently vehemently dislike Spurs.

I dislike them because of the way they act towards our club.
I dislike them because they like to throw around words like "classless" without a trace of irony.
I dislike them because they are the media darlings of the age; the new Manchester United, who have a bunch of good but not great players, hyped to be the next Maradona.
I dislike them because their manager is tactically clueless and bankrupts every club that he has been at.
I dislike them because they shout from the rooftops about "Arab money" when they are owned by their own billionaire and formerly owned by Alan Sugar.
I dislike them because they play poor football which is somehow touted as exciting and consists of twatting it down the wings.
I dislike them because their manager is the most bent bastard in the history of football, but gets away with it because he's never shy to take a journo out to lunch.
I dislike them because they somehow think that they are "above us" as both a club and a fanbase.
I dislike them because they like to refer to themselves by names that should not be spoken in modern society.

Apart from that, they're alright. I don't dislike them as much as the scousers, rags or geordies, but they come in a close fourth.

I dislike spurs so much more than Newcastle, despise spurs so so much. They think they are gods gift, the media think the exact same too unfortunately

If a City fan said this on a spurs forum there would probably be many answers like this:

"No, Spurs are doing it the right way and City are just buying success."

Instead of sitting on the fence like that, you should tell us how you really feel about Spurs.
