The Tottenham Thread (Merged)

Calm down. I didn't make the comparison. It's a screengrab from tonight’s TV coverage.

It shows that after 99 games played the two players were performing at a similar level with Bale slightly ahead.

It makes for interesting reading for those bitter few who can't recognize what a class player he is.

I don't think he's trying to compare Bale to the player Ronaldo is now. Ronaldo's got 5 years on Bale, it's more of an attempt at understanding the potential he has.

The above stats are interesting for sure, 95% of people myself included would have thought Ronaldo would blitz Bale stats wise in the first 100 games. Especially considering he was playing left back for maybe a quarter of those games.

Not his best performance today granted, but he is an exciting player to watch, and seems a nice lad too which is unusual. As long as he cuts out the diving shit he could become a legend with us.

It doesn't even show that. On paper, Mikel has a 90% pass completion rate. Thats not far off Xavi. Would you like Mikel in your squad?

Why doesn't it? What other stats do you need to gain a general idea of the ability/potential of two attacking players?

Good god no.

If you're tying to compare Bale to Ronaldo just GTFO with your dignity. Come back when he's scoring 50 goals a season on a regular basis. The hype is just ridiculous. "Ridiculous" isn't even a strong enough word. He's a great player, why do Spurs and the media feel the need to make it more than it is? Do you know how immense Mata has been for Chelsea this season week in week out? All he gets is "he's a poor man's Silva".

Also, after his performance today, is it really a good idea to come on and start making comparisons like that?

if your club had 10 more points this year there would be no 'poor man's Silva' talk. Unfair, but that's how it is.
(though to be fair it seems most people on here wanted Mata ahead of Nasri this summer).

ooo look I can do that too

He is a poor mans Silva.

Not in the same class. Just as Silva's not in the same class as Xavi and Iniesta.

Doesn't mean they aren't all quality players though.

Hahahahaha.

A Spurs fan thinks a CITY fan is bitter???!!

You sound like his agent. Are you trying to sell him to us?

Do you think he'll still be at "The Lane" next season? The season after? How long's his contract? What's his realistic worth? And don't say £100M FFS or you'll just lose all credibility... I know the Europeans have been wanking over him since last years CL, but we know he's not like that every week... I bet Levy's rubbing his hands together though eh?

Although I should warn you that it's the sheik you'll have to talk to eventually as us on Bluemoon can't actually sanction a purchase. But if you quote a fair price, we'll put a good word in for you...

If any of Robin van Persie, Aguero, Hernandez, Rooney, even Dzeko I bet, were on the end of the chances Mata has given Torres alone this season, we probably would be.

What else have you got against Bale if not bitterness?

-- Tue Feb 07, 2012 2:31 am --

If only you could afford to spunk 50 million on a proven, world class goalscorer eh?

shame, because everything aside from Torres' finishing yesterday was pretty damn good.

Unfortunately the part he's no longer good at is a pretty large part of a striker's job.

Four and a half years left on his contract (I think).

I reckon he'll stay for one more season and if he continues to progress he'll go for serious money.

He may be shite, but at least he's ours. It'd be pretty depressing having to borrow somebody's dead weight.

YIB

I have nothing against Bale at all. I realise this may be difficult for you to comprehend, but my initial post about 'delusions' was nothing to do with Bale! The thread is a Tottenham thread and I posted my thoughts on Tottenham posters (like you in particular) as I find you immensely deluded.

Anyway, I'm off to another thread and will leave you to it.

Try not to jump to conclusions in the future, lest I be tempted to post this for you ;o)

I don't know, loaning Ade for a season while City pick up most of his wages actually brings with it a certain sense of satisfaction.

And of course I could reply with 'I'd be pretty embarrassed if a Russian oligarch used my club like a toy, buying his fantasy players contrary to the powerless managers wishes'- but I won't, I'm, better than that.

Thats the thing with him though. He plays like that quite a lot. Makes lovely passes and link up play. But when the chance comes to him, he just doesn't know what to do. The old Torres would just rifle the shot, he starts messing around with extra touches and dribbling and defenders just smother him out. I think he should go to Italy where he could be reformed with their slower league (he is still pretty fast and agile so he should be able to create a lot of space for himself there like a 30 year old Eto'o). He is just never going to succeed here.

We should have gone for Aguero. Failing that we should have gone for Falcao. But thats in the past now and I'm just sick of demoralising him further and wasting both our time and his. I can't fault him for lack of effort, it just isn't happening for him and that doesn't look like changing any time soon.

what striker(s) in your opinion do you think will be brought in in the summer?

Even with the paper bollocks today about Roman having a stern talking to AVB he surely must stay in charge next season?

I think Van Persie fits in perfectly with your team, realistic too if they don't get top 4. But we can move this to the Chelsea thread if you so desire.
