Sometimes celebrity contestants on things like Pointless seem to not really try, or act a bit dumb. Is this because they think its uncool or bad for their image if they appear to be a bit too keen, swotty or knowledgeable?

Surely it's pointless going on the quiz show to begin with if that's their attitude? ;)

Almost anyone can be a celebrity these days, just as almost anyone can be thick.

Because someone can 'Influence' , sing, act etc does not mean they've anything more in their head other than clouds.

In my opinion it is more likely to be because they are actually as thick as mince.

Celebrities who compete on 'charity' editions of television quiz shows - such as the BBC's Pointless - can take home more in appearance fees than they win for good causes, it's been claimed.

Not exactly the same as an average joe getting an appearance on the show is it?

They get paid to be there and can raise some money for charity, good chance of being invited back too.

Can see why they wouldn't really do some general knowledge cramming unless super competitive and their ego was turned on by winning a quiz.
