The TV Quiz Show Thread

The Eye do a 'Dumb Britain". The best I ever heard was the guy on Dale Winton's In it to win it' slot. The question was 'Where is the Algarve?' He said, "I know this, I was there a fortnight ago. It's Spain'! FM with a raw carrot!
Costa De La Luz is known as the Spanish Algarve so quite possibly had been there.

At a pub quiz we were marking the card of some itinerants who were Student Types, first question, “what’s a jalapeño?”, answer was “a white horse”, we were like hyenas marking their answers, thick as fuck.

Anne Heggarty and Trmendous Knowledge Dave come to my local now and again playing away in the Quiz League. Dave is ok to be fair, he does like a good drink but that Anne, what a miserable fucker she is.

Jeez, he'd have to improve a hundred fold on his tv persona. He comes across as a fucking smug bastard and so well fitted to Rag support.

When you were young didn’t you know anything about the world and it’s major events? I know stuff about the black death, the English civil war, the history of my country, I wasn’t there, but I was brought up to be interested in where we came from. To try and understand what was going on. It seems now that this is a thing of the past and as long as you know trivia about who you like us acceptable.

They say youth will be our saviour. Well I hope so too, but if they aren’t interested in the world what chance is there of that happening?

I don’t think ignorance is a thing to be celebrated. No matter what age you are. Dumbing down helps keep us down. I despair how people don’t care to know what’s going on. Or what went on to lead us to where we are. I think that’s dangerous.

But again, the point was not being stupid or ignorant, it was going on a show that exposes that. That I cannot understand. If the quiz was about pop culture and the Karadashians type thing, she may well have won it. But, the show isn’t about that. I get the same feeling when adults tell you with pride they never read books. As if that’s something to be proud of. They don’t care about politics etc. These people are easily manipulated and we are seeing the fruits of that ignorance and manipulation all over the world today. I don’t think it’s healthy.

When we were young we FOCs from CBL3 went to the local library, got out a couple of books about the world and things, read 'em, took 'em back and got a couple more, instead of pissing about in front of a computer zapping zombies!

He’s honestly well liked and very polite, the landlady thinks he’s great. As soon as someone says they are a Rag I take an instant dislike to them but sometimes they prove you wrong (but not often).

Tremendous knowledge Dave don't turn out much now his brain works, sadly his body doesn't. Anne's exceptional, we thought we might have a chance this year with her stuffed in some jungle but the Lowe's are so desperate they'll just recruit more ringers to ensure victory.

Saw Dave I think it was earlier this year, looked ok, what’s wrong with him. My local is the Sycamore in Ashton-under-Lyne but I’m never involved in the quiz, it’s proper tough.

His legs are knackered mate he's struggled for a while now spends time in a wheel chair not seen him turn out for Lowes for about 12 month's now,(not that they need him with the Governess in the side)I play for lodge currently in 3rd its a case of who comes runners up funnily enough.

WWTBAM? was incredible TV when it first came on. Pubs near me would show it on Saturday nights and the place was silent watching.

I lived in Hereford at the time. Try and remember that I’m not actually from Manchester originally.

I think the chase is bent. Whenever someone goes for the big offer, the questions get changed and it’s pure nerd questions about kings and queens, chess, presidents shoe size etc.
