The (very) Thin Blue Line

As I've pointed out to you before the economy of a country is not the same as running a corner shop.

The austerity policy had nothing to do with 'balancing the books', which in any case it failed to do.

Strange how suddenly the party you seem to worship can now find unlimited funds in pursuit of its policies.
I disagree. Austerity had plenty to do with balancing the books. Utter nonsense to suggest otherwise.

Yes there was almost certainly an event if wsnting to rebalance the size of the public Vs private sectors (quite right too) but of course balancing the book was a key imperative.

And we have more money to spend now because the deficit has been significant reduced.

The tummy ticklers have arrived.......Thank fuck the country still has a decent percentage of men with a backbone, who allow the luvvies to sleep in relative safety at night.Hopefully more can be recruited before it's too late.

You are guilty of what Piketty called "patrimonial capitalism" as you are using this dreadful death of a police officer as deflection. You appropriate blame in the wrong place.

I don't think one person here will not be saddened by this awful event, yet you bring up taxes and the workshy. It is the sort of populist rhetoric we now see employed by the far right demagogues like Trump and Johnson. This populism has emerged because they have constructed an "in" group to which you allude and to which you see yourself as part of. You see yourself as having become the oppressed and project blame on to others, it is classical Daily Mail/right wing media tactics. The real oppressed have become the "out" group and are now seen as fair game for attacking by the populists. The "out" group are the workshy, muslims, migrants, luvvies, tummy ticklers and they are the focus of the attacks rather than the austerity that caused the problems in the first place.

Populists use division to further exploit the divides that exist and you are doing the devils work for them, you are justifying there very existence and are colluding with their demagoguery. They have no real interest in your issues or problems you are just a useful idiot to them as you serve their ends to perfection.

.

No it did not. It was an ideological tool used to cut state spending to American levels, without thinking that we have a different economy to them. We have full health care provision etc they do not. The aim was to reach around 37% of GDP as state spend when historically the UK was higher due to our economy being different. As is often said the Government of the day used "events" to radically change the way the economy runs. It is handbag economics and it was why growth stalled when the Tories came to power.

In 1946 GDP was -256% yet the nation used Keynesian economic theory to invest its way out of that deficit. The country built a Million new council homes, created the NHS when times were hardest. The economy grew and the late 50s the nation boomed as a result and now that generation are known as the baby boomers. That would not have happened if we had employed austerity back then.

The nation is not a household and onne of the most ridiculous comparisons ever made was making the household/nation analogy. It was utter bollox. It didnt even take into account that many household run a deficit as a natural cause by having mortgages etc.

Piketty is no idiot, he is also no leftie. He is however right.

This is not about criminality it is about the rise of populist demagoguery. You constantly use populist tropes, your post about David Lammy was a masterclass in it.

Like Urban Genie I am also on the authoritarian left who have absolutely no time for criminality of any sort and condemn it all at every turn, however I do see mindless initiatives as deflection from the real issues that are the stupidity of cutting police numbers at a time of rising populism and nationalism.

I am willing to pay my fair share, the fact is due to my wage....i pay more.As i said, your aiming at the wrong target.

Your point about Police pay is exactly my point, its shite.

And the last thing we want is fucking graduates,christ.....thats part of the reason we're in shit state now.

The assumption that we need graduates is wrong, we need the right people and we need to pay them better. This poor fella is just a memory to his family I hope they learn to cope with their loss.

This isn't about left or right or who you are and what education you have had, sometimes you sound like you get your opinions from media and the internet only.

This strange fascination with lefties being some kind of beatnik hippies types that would allow a lawless society is ridiculous, policing suffers from bad governments under funding and lack of officers and specialists, at present a right wing government has failed to do that so bringing up left or right rather than concentrating on the core issue is stupid.

This is a tragic event and society has an issue with lack of respect for authority and the police, emergency services, teachers etc.
This isn't an issue about how many graduates or not are coppers, anyone who is commited to preventing crime and serving the public it doesn't matter where they came from or what education level they are, graduates and non graduates are equally important.
This isn't about how society has suddenly broken down, this shit has been going on decades and has gone on in previous generations.

What causes spikes in in these trends are time s of increased inequality, poor education investment, lack of support for public services and police funding, lack of social schemes and activities to engage the young in non criminal activity.

No police officer should lose their life or get injured in their line of workand this horrible event is a tragedy, knee jerk commentry rather than a measured aproach won't help anyone.

If Rascal is on the....
authoritarian left

You have a great deal more in common than you think.

With the authoritarian left you probably wouldn't need to change very much, just stop talking like a dick and do as you're told.

You'd love it.

U wot?
To quote you ( inserting capitals for emphasis).

"Austerity had plenty to do with BALANCING THE BOOKS".
"BALANCING THE BOOK (sic) was a key imperative"

So now that we've reduced the current deficit ( albeit too slowly and by not enough, hence national debt of 1.8tn) I assume we're going to go for one final heave to reduce the deficit to zero and BALANCE THE BOOKS.
Oh no wait - we're now going to reverse everything we said before and spend more than we earn by borrowing, thereby increasing the current deficit and the national debt and in fact NOT BALANCING THE BOOKS.
And when interest rates rise and servicing the national debt becomes a problem what happens then?
Fcuk knows.
