The (very) Thin Blue Line

This isn't about left or right or who you are and what education you have had, sometimes you sound like you get your opinions from media and the internet only.

This strange fascination with lefties being some kind of beatnik hippies types that would allow a lawless society is ridiculous, policing suffers from bad governments under funding and lack of officers and specialists, at present a right wing government has failed to do that so bringing up left or right rather than concentrating on the core issue is stupid.

This is a tragic event and society has an issue with lack of respect for authority and the police, emergency services, teachers etc.
This isn't an issue about how many graduates or not are coppers, anyone who is commited to preventing crime and serving the public it doesn't matter where they came from or what education level they are, graduates and non graduates are equally important.
This isn't about how society has suddenly broken down, this shit has been going on decades and has gone on in previous generations.

What causes spikes in in these trends are time s of increased inequality, poor education investment, lack of support for public services and police funding, lack of social schemes and activities to engage the young in non criminal activity.

No police officer should lose their life or get injured in their line of workand this horrible event is a tragedy, knee jerk commentry rather than a measured aproach won't help anyone.
I've no idea what,or who you, were replying to,as given my stated thinking and opinions on law and order.....it clearly wasn't me.

Retention is maybe a bigger problem than recruitment.

Good officers, the type we need are leaving every day.We need to address that issue as a matter of urgency.

Officers are leaving in their droves.

I for one have the opportunity to quit 5 years early next year-I lose a significant sum but my quality of life and my mental health is worth so much more.

This horrific incident shows the barbaric, violent society that we now live in-drug ridden, lack of respect, poor sentencing, the breakdown of the family unit, the disrespect the tory government have brought upon the service with their savage cuts and erosion of our pay and conditions.

Officers have normally in my 24 years service attended incidents single crewed-it is no longer safe to do so.

Officers join the job to make a difference, to do some good. We don't always get it right but I can assure everyone that those on the frontline-many these days just kids, do their utmost to do a good job and to protect and serve-and they should all go home to their loved ones safely after their tour of duty.

Already this week 2 of my staff have been injured at work. Its no longer unusual its every day.

If you meet a cop, say hello, thank them-it goes a long way.

I know how bad it is mate, only too well.....take care.

Perhaps because part of the cuts were all canteens were closed. You work shifts, you have 10 minutes to cram something down your throat before the next call-you eat crap food that's readily available..

Come and join the railway with the rest of us,honestly you wont believe the difference it makes to your wellbeing and lifestyle.

It will be a little while watching homes under the hammer and tipping point before i look for a second career :)

I needed almost 12 months out too.
Without experiencing the stress, issues, demands and conditions an officer is under on every shift....it would be impossible for anyone to empathise or fully understand the pressures and impact the job/responsibility brings.
