The Waiting List

The new stand was intended to be full of those blues on the waiting list. But it's largely full of existing season ticket holders fleeing from the vast increases in level 2, and likewise blues seeking respite from the longstanding incremental increases in other areas of the ground.
Not true. If it were meant to be full of waiting list blues, why would they offer the seats to existing S/T holders first.

Based on Adult Gold:

55% of the stadium available as season ticket at £620 or below
35% of the stadium available as season ticket in the range £675-£750
10% of the stadium available as season ticket at £800 or above

As regards increases for 2015/2016 the pricing plan (on the website and in the ST renewal brochure) is split into 178 segments:

38 new pitchside and south stand which are all cheap with the exception of the from rows of the south stand L3 which are still good value
43 segments where the price is the same of lower than 2014/2015
56 segments where there has been a small increase from 2014/2015 of no more than £20.

So for 137 of the 178 segments (over 75%) ST holders have absolutely not been screwed with stupid price increases this year.

Having said all that I doubt there's anyone who would argue with the statement "football is too bleedin' expensive".

My first season ticket, for the 1999/2000 season, cost me £280. My current season ticket cost me £725. The only seat move I've had in that time was when we moved stadium! So, in 17 seasons my ticket price has gone up by slightly more than 250%. Some of that can be accounted for by the return to the Premier League (higher quality product, so worth more), and with the new stadium (higher qualify facilities, so worth more), but does that really account for a 250% rise? If you factored in inflation over that same 17 year period, would that be running at 250%? Would a £10,000 car in 2000 cost me the equivalent of £35,000 now? A £100,000 house now be £350,000? I very much doubt it. Football costs have increased at a far greater rate than most other things, and certainly at a greater rate than most people's salaries will have. I'm lucky in that I was 22 and just starting work in 1999/2000, now I'm 38 and I've progressed both professionally, and financially, over that period so that my salary increases have actually outstripped the cost increases of my season ticket. The vast majority won't have been as lucky as me however.

Great post. Bravo Sir.

It has outstripped inflation but then again some things do. As you mention the product is completely different now with being in the PL, CL etc and having world class players. Our prices have to be taken in the context of the prices that other clubs charge and as such I think we are comparatively well priced.

We are indeed comparatively well priced, however that's when comparing to the prices charged by other clubs who are, in my opinion, also over pricing their tickets.

I'm not having a dig at City specifically, I'm having a dig at the professional football industry as a whole, and specifically the elements of the industry who dictate, and determine, the costs to be passed on to the fans.

Fair enough. It's difficult to evaluate though what is overpriced when people keep paying for the product on offer. Businesses always tend to price at the highest level they can sell at, so until fans start to desert the stadiums, it is unlikely to change.

Obviously depending on where you sit I think we can be very well priced, my season ticket is £500, I've got loads of mates who are Forest season ticket holders and their ticket is £465 for the equivalent of mine, so in terms of value, product on offer etc I'd say it's extremely well priced.

That's fair enough mate, and I agree. But I don't like being shouted down for expressing an opinion that can be deemed as negative by blues on a hair trigger to pop at other blues they don't see eye to eye with.

The issue of ticket prices is my single biggest concern with City at present.

I think it's harming the atmosphere, and pricing out longstanding blues.

It's also going to make the expanded ground harder to fill.

This is something which should pull us all together, as it makes City, City.

Last season, in our opening fixture against the dippers, the cheapest adult ticket you could get your hands on was £57 - and that was in the family stand with a child in tow. Most adult tickets were well into the £60s.

What will the prices be like when we face Chelsea next month?

Where does this end?

This is something I really worry about, and I shouldn't have to fucking scrap with other blues to defend myself simply for showing some perceived negativity before they even reflect on my points.

I know there are undercover rags on here. But I don't think they're the type that give a shit how expensive our tickets are, and the pricing out of blues. In fact, they'd probably celebrate it given they could wank each other off on Twitter to the empty seats it'd leave.

These are the kind of discussions that are better had in person, I suppose. Because on an anonymous internet forum, ulterior motives are always suspected when critical opinions are voiced.

I completely agree with you and await the Chelsea ticket details eagerly as we will be playing in a well under capacity stadium for a lot of the season if they try and charge the same as last season. I'm pretty sure Chelsea will be a sell-out whatever but if they're trying to charge the best part of £50 against the lesser clubs then we'll be a few thousand under as we were struggling to sell out last season with a reduced capacity.
