I really enjoyed beating them at the swamp on their 50th Munich anniversary day. Ha, Ha,Ha.
I was sat in their end with my 3 red mates - priceless. I must have been one of the very few without the free rag scarf on.

Having a debate at the weekend as to whether Slurgie was actually a very lucky manager. Lucky in the respect that he was given a long time, in todays game, to actually build something. He was very nearly sacked despite what he may have said consequently and when the monye exploded Ushited had already been spending big for many years and the gap widened each year. As soon as teams began to catch up, which did take 20 years he bails out. If he came to the swamp now would he be such a success. Would the media bend over backwards for him now like they did for all those years etc etc. When he started the club had all the power but as soon as Bossman and the wages occured the power shifted but by that time it was his way or not at all!

Nothing to do with luck whatsoever. You don't survive 26 years at the top flight of professional football and deliver the haul of trophies virtually year in year out like he did and its down to luck - no way. Never.
Regardless of we and others think of him he was a brilliant motivator, manipulator, and man manager who knew his football inside out. He built what he managed remember as Liverpool were the top dogs by some considerable distance when he joined the Rags (and lets not forget that the scousers were not backward in pulling all of the stunts Ferguson did later down the line). However he had already proved he had the ability & credentials by achieving what he did at Aberdeen beforehand. His 'influence' was gathered over time and he used it to absolute maximum effect in every single way possible to gain a competitive advantage for himself, his players and therefore his club. Yes - as manager of the rags he was an obnoxious, nasty, horrible piece of work but as a British football manager he has no equal. I think the book will be very interesting and probably a good read that delivers some real insights into him as a person and his thinking as a 'Manager'. I will never buy the book but if I get it offered second hand then yes I probably will give it a read. I don't like the man at all but I do admire his longevity and achievements in the toughest of all professions.

A chronology of quotes by bacon face marking the emergence of our dominance over the rags through his slimy eyes would be priceless!
It would start with confidently contemptuous 'not in my lifetime' but then gradually work up the ladder with the first acorns of concern and ratcheting up to 'quivering wreck fear' before the 1-0 title show down.

still dont think the tevez poster had anything on 100%mancs version!

As I said it was just a debate with fans of Everton and scum. I didn't say he wasn't a great motivator etc, the debate was about large slices of luck, timing etc that is unlikely to repeated in the future.

Margaret Thatcher's autobiography was 800 pages long. In all of that, she never once admitted making a mistake. Suspect this book may follow that example.
